Title
Balmorra
Standard Text
An independent-minded industrial world whose factories, strategic position, and long history of occupation and resistance have made it one of the most consequential worlds near the Core.
Heading
Overview
Standard Text
Balmorra is one of the galaxy's great centers of military industry. Its manufacturers became renowned for advanced weapons, battle droids, vehicles, and other military technology, while the planet's location near the Core Worlds made control of that production strategically valuable.
For much of its history, Balmorra was fiercely independent rather than simply another Republic world. It maintained close ties with the Galactic Republic Galactic Republic, trading with it and accepting Republic assistance when threatened, while retaining its own government and strong planetary identity.
That independence was tested during the Great Galactic War. The Sith Empire Sith Empire invaded to seize Balmorra's industrial capacity. Republic forces helped defend the world but officially withdrew under the Treaty of Coruscant, leaving an Imperial occupation opposed by a persistent Balmorran resistance. The Republic later returned in strength, and the conflict entered a new phase centered on liberation and restoration of Balmorran government.
Balmorra therefore offers more than a battlefield. It is a setting for workers, engineers, corporate families, veterans, former resistance communities, soldiers, scientists, traders, displaced families, civil servants, salvagers, security personnel, and people whose views of independence, the Republic, and the Empire were shaped by very different experiences of the same war.

Suggested Placement:
Below the Overview.
Suggested Subject / Description:
A wide contemporary Balmorran landscape showing open grassland and dry terrain broken by tall, jagged rock formations, with substantial Old Republic-era industrial infrastructure in the middle distance. Factories, conduits, freight facilities, or transport infrastructure should establish Balmorra's industrial identity, while limited damaged or reclaimed infrastructure suggests its wartime history without presenting the planet as an active battlefield.
Suggested Format:
4:3 landscape website image.
Visual Continuity:
This should serve as the page's primary establishing image. Keep the horizon, industrial structures, and major rock formations readable at approximately 440 × 330 px. Coordinate its rendering quality and cinematic treatment with the later occupation-era image while allowing this image to feel calmer and more inhabited.
Era / Lore Requirements:
Use SWTOR/Old Republic-era industrial and transportation design. Balmorra should appear habitable as well as industrialized. Do not replace its characteristic open terrain and rock formations with a planet-wide urban factoryscape, and do not imply a new present-day Imperial invasion.
Recommended Alt Text:
Jagged Balmorran rock formations rise above open grassland and Old Republic-era industrial complexes, with scattered traces of older war damage.
Image Generation Prompt — Image Subject:
Balmorra in the StarForgeRP present-day setting, viewed across a broad inhabited landscape. Open yellow-green grassland and dry earth extend between tall, irregular dark rock spires and ridges characteristic of SWTOR's Balmorra. Large Old Republic-era factories, freight structures, conduits, power infrastructure, and industrial buildings occupy the middle distance without covering the entire landscape. Include subtle evidence of the world's history—weathered defensive works, repaired infrastructure, or a limited scarred industrial area—but no active planetary battle and no implication that the entire world remains ruined. The scene should communicate a functioning military-industrial world still carrying visible consequences of earlier war. No named characters are required. Avoid later-era Imperial, Rebel, Clone Wars, or Galactic Civil War visual language.
A second coordinated Image Subject appears after “War, Occupation & Liberation.” Both images may use the shared Core Prompt and Visual Standard provided with that recommendation.

Landscape & Industrial Environment
Standard Text
Balmorra's industrial reputation can make the planet sound more uniformly developed than it is. Its inhabited landscape includes open grasslands, rugged canyons, towering rock formations, settlements, transportation routes, military positions, and enormous industrial complexes. Heavily damaged manufacturing districts and contaminated wastelands exist alongside terrain that remained habitable.
Industry had already created environmental pressures before the Imperial invasion. Balmorran corporations constructed waste-processing facilities and sealed hazard vaults to contain dangerous industrial byproducts and keep the world livable. Imperial bombardment damaged or destroyed parts of that system, releasing toxic material and devastating substantial areas.
The result is an uneven landscape rather than a planet-wide wasteland. A journey might pass from an operating industrial community into abandoned machinery, contaminated ground, shattered infrastructure, an old battlefield, or a region where damaged systems have been repaired or reclaimed.
Those conditions support stories beyond combat. Environmental engineers may maintain containment systems, scientists may investigate contaminated terrain, salvagers may enter abandoned industrial sites, medical personnel may treat hazardous exposure, and communities may disagree over redevelopment, corporate responsibility, or the future use of damaged land.

Industry, Government & Balmorran Identity
Subheading
Industry & Economy
Standard Text
Balmorra's influence has long exceeded what its political independence alone might suggest because other powers need what its factories can produce. Weapons, armor, battle droids, heavy vehicles, military systems, and associated industrial technologies made Balmorran manufacturing important to governments and armies across the region.
Before the invasion, corporations such as Balmorran Arms, Okara, and Traken Industries possessed substantial economic and political influence. Balmorra's industrial history therefore provides natural connections to Weapons & Defense Weapons & Defense and Droids & Automation Droids & Automation without requiring every Balmorran character to work in military manufacturing.
An industrial world still depends on far more than factory floors. Freight crews, technicians, miners, researchers, accountants, transport workers, administrators, medical personnel, maintenance teams, contractors, agricultural communities, service workers, security personnel, and countless other professions support the people and infrastructure surrounding major production centers.

Government & Independence
Standard Text
Before the Imperial invasion, Balmorra operated as a corporation-dominated oligarchic democracy centered on Bin Prime. Major companies exercised considerable influence, but Balmorra remained politically distinct from the Republic despite their close relationship.
That distinction became especially important after the Republic withdrew its official military support under the Treaty of Coruscant. For Balmorrans who had expected a longtime ally to remain, the withdrawal could be remembered as abandonment even when the Republic's broader strategic position made continued intervention difficult.
The Imperial occupation attempted to exploit Balmorra's existing corporate hierarchy rather than discard it entirely. Cooperative executives could retain influence while opponents were displaced, creating opportunities for collaboration, coercion, opportunism, quiet resistance, and survival within the same economic institutions.
Balmorran identity should therefore not imply a single political outlook. Independence could coexist with support for the Republic, resentment toward it, resistance to Imperial rule, weariness with continued fighting, corporate ambition, or distrust of every outside power. Family, profession, region, wartime experience, and personal history may matter more than a simple planetary stereotype.

War, Occupation & Liberation
Subheading
Imperial Invasion
Standard Text
The Empire targeted Balmorra for both its industrial output and its strategic position. Its invasion combined technological sabotage with direct military force. Networked security systems protecting factories, laboratories, weapons, and other infrastructure were compromised, turning parts of Balmorra's own defenses against the planet before orbital bombardment and a full invasion devastated its military response and central government.
The Republic intervened in Balmorra's defense, but the wider war placed increasing demands on Republic forces. Under the Treaty of Coruscant, official Republic support was withdrawn. A smaller underground presence continued assisting local resistance, but Balmorra was left under an occupation the Empire still struggled to make complete.

Occupation & Resistance
Standard Text
Imperial victory did not end organized opposition. Former soldiers and civilians used local knowledge, industrial infrastructure, hidden positions, and surviving weapons to sustain a prolonged resistance.
The movement extended well beyond professional fighters. SWTOR depicts farmers, teachers, artists, workers, and other ordinary Balmorrans participating in resistance activity, while other citizens wanted the fighting to end and were prepared to accept Imperial governance. Occupation therefore divided communities as well as armies.
Imperial authorities responded with military policing, propaganda, restrictions on movement, identification and loyalty requirements, arrests, and collective punishment. Sobrik became the center of the occupation, while factories, industrial sites, and surrounding terrain became contested spaces.
For later characters, that history can leave complicated family legacies. An ancestor might have fought openly, collaborated, profited, disappeared, fled the planet, protected neighbors without joining the resistance, or simply tried to keep a family alive.
Subheading
Republic Return & Liberation
Standard Text
Balmorra's Imperial-side and Republic-side SWTOR stories represent different stages of the conflict rather than simultaneous versions of the planet.
During the later phase, substantial Republic forces return and work alongside Balmorran resistance fighters and political figures seeking to restore independent government. Tai Cordan's campaign to rebuild civilian authority becomes part of that effort, culminating in his rise to the presidency and a formal request for Balmorra to join the Republic.
The liberation therefore changes Balmorra's political circumstances without erasing the importance of its earlier independence. The Republic returns as a military partner after having once withdrawn, while Balmorrans emerge from years in which occupation, resistance, collaboration, corporate survival, and wartime loss affected different communities in different ways.
Image / Photo — Optional
Suggested Placement:
Immediately after “Republic Return & Liberation.”
Suggested Subject / Description:
A historical occupation-era view of a fortified Balmorran industrial complex among rocky terrain. Heavy manufacturing structures, defensive positions, damaged machinery, and controlled signs of battle should communicate why factories became strategic strongholds. The composition should remain focused on place and circumstance rather than a heroic named character or spectacular battlefield.
Suggested Format:
4:3 landscape website image.
Visual Continuity:
Match the dimensions, rendering quality, cinematic realism, and general presentation of the opening Balmorra image. This image may be more damaged, enclosed, and tense, providing a deliberate historical contrast with the functioning landscape shown above.
Era / Lore Requirements:
The scene represents the SWTOR class-story occupation period. Architecture, military equipment, droids, barriers, armor silhouettes, weapons, and vehicles must use Old Republic/SWTOR-era visual language. Do not depict later Galactic Empire stormtroopers, Rebel Alliance equipment, clone forces, or other later-era substitutions. Do not imply a specific undocumented outcome or place recognizable named characters in the scene.
Recommended Alt Text:
A fortified Balmorran industrial complex stands among rocky terrain with damaged machinery, defensive positions, and signs of occupation-era fighting.
Image Generation Prompt — Image Subject:
Balmorra during the SWTOR-era Imperial occupation, focused on a massive fortified weapons-manufacturing complex built among Balmorra's jagged rocky terrain. The industrial site should contain heavy Old Republic-era machinery, production structures, armored walls, loading areas, conduits, and defensive positions. Show restrained evidence of prolonged fighting: damaged equipment, blast-scarred structures, abandoned barricades, localized smoke or haze, and contested approaches through the surrounding rocks. Small distant figures or military positions may suggest Balmorran resistance, Republic involvement, and Imperial occupation forces, but no named character should dominate the composition and no specific undocumented battle outcome should be invented. The purpose is to show why Balmorra's factories became both strategic assets and defensible strongholds. Avoid later Galactic Empire, Rebel Alliance, Clone Wars, or other later-era visual design.
Shared Core Prompt for Both Balmorra Images:
Create an original 4:3 visual for the StarForgeRP website based on the Image Subject described above.
Use a realistic, cinematic concept-art presentation appropriate to Star Wars: The Old Republic and the broader Old Republic era. The image should feel grounded, detailed, atmospheric, and believable, with restrained visual storytelling rather than exaggerated spectacle.
Maintain visual compatibility with the broader StarForgeRP artwork collection without forcing every subject into identical colors or lighting. Dark blue, navy, charcoal, muted metallic tones, cool environmental light, and selective warm gold or amber illumination may provide a recurring visual foundation where appropriate. Allow the natural colors of a character, world, culture, environment, object, or scene to remain recognizable when they are important to the subject.
Compose the scene according to what it needs to communicate. Characters, locations, landscapes, historical scenes, artifacts, architecture, starships, organizations, cultural subjects, technology, and archival compositions do not require identical framing. Give the primary subject a clear visual focus while allowing the surrounding environment to provide useful context, scale, and atmosphere.
Prioritize SWTOR-era and Old Republic-era visual language. Clothing, armor, architecture, starships, weapons, equipment, terminals, droids, vehicles, furnishings, and other technology should feel appropriate to that period when they appear. Avoid designs strongly associated with later Star Wars eras unless the individual Image Subject specifically requires them.
When the subject is tied to a particular faction, organization, culture, location, historical period, or StarForgeRP development, follow the supplied lore and continuity information rather than replacing it with generic Star Wars imagery.
Do not invent lore-significant uniforms, insignia, technology, architecture, symbols, relationships, events, or outcomes merely to make the image more elaborate.
When an uncertain detail is not necessary to the composition, it may remain visually unspecified.
Where appropriate, use environmental depth, atmospheric haze, practical or holographic illumination, weather, planetary terrain, architecture, machinery, interiors, crowds, distant activity, or culturally appropriate surroundings.
Background detail should support the primary subject and help establish the setting without overwhelming the composition.
For original StarForgeRP characters and other community-created subjects, follow supplied descriptions and reference material when available.
Preserve specifically requested identifying features, proportions, clothing, equipment, markings, colors, or other established design elements while creating a new composition rather than closely reproducing unrelated artwork.
If no reference image is supplied, create an original interpretation from the written description. Do not request a reference merely because one could improve precision.
Weapons should appear only when relevant to the subject.
Lightsabers should not be added merely as general Star Wars decoration; include them only when they meaningfully belong to the character, event, location, activity, or subject being depicted.
Do not include titles, captions, logos, borders, watermarks, webpage elements, decorative written language, readable interface labels, or other visible text unless the individual Image Subject specifically calls for them.
Compose the artwork for a 4:3 frame.
Keep important faces, characters, objects, landmarks, vehicles, and other essential visual information comfortably within the composition, with enough surrounding space to prevent important details from being lost near the edges.
The primary subject should remain recognizable and readable when the image is displayed on StarForgeRP at approximately 440 × 330 px.
Shared Visual Standard:
Aspect Ratio: 4:3
Website Display Size: approximately 440 × 330 px
Generation Size: use an appropriate native 4:3 resolution rather than generating specifically at the smaller website dimensions
Overall Style: realistic, cinematic Old Republic-era concept art
Palette: dark blue, navy, charcoal, muted metallic tones, and restrained warm illumination as a recurring foundation where appropriate; preserve subject-specific colors when important
Lighting: predominantly cinematic and atmospheric, often using cool ambient light with selective warm gold or amber highlights where appropriate
Atmosphere: grounded, immersive, detailed, and visually restrained
Composition: clear primary subject, readable at website display size, with essential details safely inside the frame
Background: lore-appropriate and supportive without competing with the primary subject
Continuity & Era: favor supplied StarForgeRP continuity and SWTOR-era visual language; avoid unsupported or later-era substitutions
Reference Material: preserve requested subject identity and established design details when references are available; generate from the written description when no reference is supplied and none is required
Technology: appropriate to the Old Republic or SWTOR era when applicable
Weapons: only when relevant to the subject
Lightsabers: only when specifically appropriate to the subject
Originality: create a new composition rather than directly reproducing or closely copying an existing artwork
Text, Logos & UI: none unless explicitly requested

Balmorra in StarForgeRP Continuity
Standard Text
In StarForgeRP's present-day continuity, the class-story occupation and liberation belong to Balmorra's history rather than its immediate planetary state. Balmorra is treated as Republic-aligned following liberation while retaining the strong tradition of local independence that shaped its earlier relationship with the Republic.
The exact modern planetary administration, officeholders, and scale of any permanent Republic military presence remain unestablished. Republic alignment should therefore not be treated as proof that Balmorra has lost its distinct political identity or that every local institution has become part of the Republic government.
Balmorra's industrial importance still creates reasons for the wider Republic–Imperial conflict to matter. Military contracts, industrial security, intelligence operations, sabotage concerns, shipping, defense planning, technological research, political pressure, and arguments over dependence on outside powers can all affect the planet without requiring Balmorra itself to become another active invasion front.
Likewise, old battlefields and damaged facilities may remain important without freezing the entire planet in its class-story condition. Functioning communities, transportation, work, education, commerce, family life, politics, agriculture, entertainment, crime, and ordinary local concerns can coexist with visible wartime legacies.
For the current campaign date and broader galactic situation, see Current Setting Current Setting.

Major Locations
Subheading
Bin Prime
Standard Text
Bin Prime replaced Sobrik as Balmorra's capital centuries before the Imperial invasion and served as the center of the planet's corporation-influenced government.
Although SWTOR's explorable planetary stories focus more heavily on other regions, Bin Prime remains important to understanding Balmorra as a political world rather than merely a collection of factories and battlefields. Its exact condition and governmental role in later StarForgeRP continuity should remain consistent with whatever future stories establish.
Subheading
Sobrik
Standard Text
Sobrik was Balmorra's original capital before Bin Prime replaced it. The city later suffered devastating bombardment, was rebuilt by Imperial engineers, and became the principal headquarters of the occupation because of its proximity to major industrial facilities.
Its history gives Sobrik several overlapping identities: former capital, civilian city, industrial settlement, occupation center, military objective, and home to people who experienced repeated changes in authority.
Subheading
Balmorran Arms Factory
Standard Text
The Balmorran Arms Factory was among the planet's most important weapons-production and research facilities. Built as a heavily fortified industrial complex, it could manufacture equipment ranging from personal arms and armor to droids and heavy vehicles.
Its tremendous production capacity helped make the factory a major resistance stronghold during the invasion. Imperial forces eventually captured it and turned its facilities toward their own war effort.
For roleplay, the site's history supports industrial, engineering, security, salvage, espionage, research, military-history, and recovery stories without requiring its occupation-era control to be projected unchanged into the present.
Subheading
Okara Droid Factory
Standard Text
The Okara Droid Factory was one of Balmorra's largest automated droid-production complexes. During the invasion, Imperial technicians infected its systems in an attempt to turn its military droids against Balmorran defenders.
The sabotage exceeded Imperial control. Automated defenses seized the facility, continued production, and attacked intruders until Imperial forces later fought their way back inside.
Okara demonstrates that Balmorra's industrial ruins may present technological hazards as well as conventional military ones. Old automation, corrupted control systems, abandoned production lines, forgotten military hardware, or later repairs can all provide useful story circumstances when consistent with the period being portrayed.
Subheading
Bugtown
Standard Text
The site known as Bugtown originated around Lab 352, a genetic research facility associated with dangerous Colicoid specimens released during the invasion. The resulting infestation spread beyond the laboratory and remained a significant hazard during the later Balmorran fighting.
The area's history makes it suitable for hazardous exploration, scientific investigation, recovery work, missing-person searches, salvage, environmental study, or stories involving abandoned research and the consequences of wartime sabotage.
Heading
Living & Roleplaying on Balmorra
Standard Text
Balmorra works best when its history changes what characters encounter without determining every story they can have.
Industrial districts can involve controlled access, hazardous materials, proprietary research, freight security, heavy machinery, corporate authority, and military contracts. Older combat areas may contain damaged infrastructure, contaminated terrain, unexploded equipment, abandoned positions, or disputed salvage. Cities and settled communities can instead focus on work, family, politics, education, commerce, neighborhood identity, crime, veterans, redevelopment, and memories of occupation.
Visitors likewise need a reason to be somewhere rather than treating the entire planet as one unrestricted adventuring zone. A military facility, corporate plant, civilian settlement, contaminated exclusion area, former battlefield, and remote industrial site may all present different authorities and risks.

Character Questions
List
What connects the character to Balmorra: birth, family, work, military service, trade, research, politics, displacement, or a particular mission? How does the character relate to Balmorra's industrial economy? Do they build, transport, regulate, protect, research, repair, purchase, steal, or oppose what its factories produce? What did the occupation mean to their family or community? Resistance, collaboration, flight, imprisonment, profiteering, loss, survival, or ordinary life under pressure can produce very different memories. How do they view the Republic? As an ally, an unreliable protector, a necessary strategic partner, an outside influence, or something more complicated? How do they view Balmorran independence? Republic alignment does not require every Balmorran to hold the same ideas about political integration. What part of Balmorra do they actually know? Life in an industrial center may differ greatly from life around smaller communities, damaged wilderness, transportation corridors, or former combat zones.Which consequences of the war still affect them? Family losses, contaminated land, ruined property, old resistance relationships, industrial hazards, veteran networks, political grudges, and restored opportunities may all persist. What matters in their life beyond the war? Careers, friendships, relationships, rivalries, ambitions, hobbies, communities, and responsibilities help make Balmorra a home rather than merely a historical battlefield.
