**Title**
Hoth
**Small Text / Caption**
A remote Outer Rim ice world transformed by a Great Galactic War fleet disaster into a vast graveyard of warships, contested by soldiers, pirates, salvagers, settlers, and anyone willing to brave the cold for what remains beneath it.
**Heading**
Overview
**Standard Text**
Hoth is a remote world of glaciers, snowfields, frozen ridges, deep fissures, ice caverns, and lethal cold. Few places on the planet offer dependable shelter, and even properly equipped travelers must contend with whiteouts, mechanical failures, difficult terrain, and distances that can turn a routine breakdown into an emergency.
Its importance during the SWTOR era comes largely from war. During the Great Galactic War, Imperial forces ambushed a major Republic fleet in the Hoth system. Hundreds of vessels were destroyed, including advanced Republic warships and prototypes, and much of the wreckage fell to the planet below.
The resulting starship graveyard attracted pirates and salvagers before either government could mount a serious recovery effort. After the Treaty of Coruscant, the **Galactic Republic** ([Galactic Republic page](https://www.starforgerp.com/lore/factions-powers/galactic-republic?utm_source=chatgpt.com)) and **Sith Empire** ([Sith Empire page](https://www.starforgerp.com/lore/factions-powers/sith-empire?utm_source=chatgpt.com)) returned to reclaim lost technology, putting both powers into conflict with one another and with the White Maw pirate confederation.
For roleplay, Hoth works especially well when the location itself creates the problem. A valuable wreck may be easy to identify but difficult to reach. A damaged heater or transport may matter more than an enemy patrol. A recovery team may discover that several groups claim the same ship. A missing traveler may have hours rather than days before weather, wildlife, or failing equipment becomes decisive.

Suggested Placement:
Immediately below the Overview.
Suggested Subject / Description:
A wide SWTOR-era view of Hoth showing a vast frozen wilderness surrounding a partially buried Old Republic warship wreck. A small recovery or salvage installation should provide scale without dominating the landscape. The scene should communicate isolation, extreme weather, and the enormous physical remains that make Hoth valuable.
Suggested Format:
4:3 website image.
Visual Continuity:
Use the realistic cinematic presentation established for StarForgeRP artwork. The wreck should remain clearly readable at approximately 440 × 330 px, with enough open snowfield and mountainous or glacial background to emphasize scale. Avoid making the image so visually busy that the wreck and environment lose their identity.
Era / Lore Requirements:
The ship, equipment, structures, clothing, vehicles, and technology must use SWTOR or broader Old Republic-era visual language. The scene represents Hoth during the Old Republic, not the Galactic Civil War.
Do not include Echo Base, Rebel Alliance symbols, Imperial-era stormtroopers, AT-ATs, Rebel snowspeeders, later Galactic Empire architecture, or other imagery strongly associated with the much later Battle of Hoth.
The wreck may be an unnamed Republic or Imperial vessel rather than an exact reconstruction of the Star of Coruscant. Do not invent unique insignia, classified technology, or another lore-significant identity merely to make the wreck more elaborate.
Reference Material:
No reference image is required. Generate an original interpretation from SWTOR-era Hoth lore and the written description.

Image Generation Prompt
Image Subject
A vast SWTOR-era landscape on the ice planet Hoth during the Old Republic.
The primary visual feature is an enormous, partially buried military starship wreck left from the Great Galactic War. Large sections of damaged hull rise from deep snow and accumulated ice, making the wreck feel substantial enough for people to enter and explore. It should use believable Star Wars: The Old Republic-era Republic or Imperial naval design language without reproducing a later Galactic Empire vessel.
A small recovery or salvage installation occupies part of the middle distance near the wreck. Include only enough prefabricated shelter, equipment, utility lighting, cargo handling machinery, antennas, power systems, or Old Republic-era transport equipment to establish that people are attempting to work in this hostile environment. Small figures may be visible for scale but should not become the primary subject.
The surrounding landscape should remain visually dominant: broad snowfields, glacial formations, frozen ridges or distant mountains, windblown snow, atmospheric haze, and signs of severe cold. The composition should communicate that the settlement and wreck are tiny islands of activity within an enormous and dangerous wilderness.
The atmosphere should suggest active salvage and recovery rather than a peaceful scenic panorama, but there is no need for an ongoing battle. No lightsaber is required.
Do not depict Echo Base, Rebel Alliance symbols, Imperial-era stormtroopers, AT-ATs, Rebel snowspeeders, later Galactic Empire installations, or other imagery associated specifically with the Galactic Civil War-era Battle of Hoth.
Do not invent a named historical wreck, unique prototype, faction victory, or other lore-significant event. The wreck may remain an unidentified casualty of the Great Galactic War.
Core Prompt
Create an original 4:3 visual for the StarForgeRP website based on the Image Subject described above.
Use a realistic, cinematic concept-art presentation appropriate to Star Wars: The Old Republic and the broader Old Republic era. The image should feel grounded, detailed, atmospheric, and believable, with restrained visual storytelling rather than exaggerated spectacle.
Maintain visual compatibility with the broader StarForgeRP artwork collection without forcing every subject into identical colors or lighting. Dark blue, navy, charcoal, muted metallic tones, cool environmental light, and selective warm gold or amber illumination may provide a recurring visual foundation where appropriate. Allow the natural colors of a character, world, culture, environment, object, or scene to remain recognizable when they are important to the subject.
Compose the scene according to what it needs to communicate. Characters, locations, landscapes, historical scenes, artifacts, architecture, starships, organizations, cultural subjects, technology, and archival compositions do not require identical framing. Give the primary subject a clear visual focus while allowing the surrounding environment to provide useful context, scale, and atmosphere.
Prioritize SWTOR-era and Old Republic-era visual language. Clothing, armor, architecture, starships, weapons, equipment, terminals, droids, vehicles, furnishings, and other technology should feel appropriate to that period when they appear. Avoid designs strongly associated with later Star Wars eras unless the individual Image Subject specifically requires them.
When the subject is tied to a particular faction, organization, culture, location, historical period, or StarForgeRP development, follow the supplied lore and continuity information rather than replacing it with generic Star Wars imagery.
Do not invent lore-significant uniforms, insignia, technology, architecture, symbols, relationships, events, or outcomes merely to make the image more elaborate.
When an uncertain detail is not necessary to the composition, it may remain visually unspecified.
Where appropriate, use environmental depth, atmospheric haze, practical or holographic illumination, weather, planetary terrain, architecture, machinery, interiors, crowds, distant activity, or culturally appropriate surroundings.
Background detail should support the primary subject and help establish the setting without overwhelming the composition.
For original StarForgeRP characters and other community-created subjects, follow supplied descriptions and reference material when available.
Preserve specifically requested identifying features, proportions, clothing, equipment, markings, colors, or other established design elements while creating a new composition rather than closely reproducing unrelated artwork.
If no reference image is supplied, create an original interpretation from the written description. Do not request a reference merely because one could improve precision.
Weapons should appear only when relevant to the subject.
Lightsabers should not be added merely as general Star Wars decoration; include them only when they meaningfully belong to the character, event, location, activity, or subject being depicted.
Do not include titles, captions, logos, borders, watermarks, webpage elements, decorative written language, readable interface labels, or other visible text unless the individual Image Subject specifically calls for them.
Compose the artwork for a 4:3 frame.
Keep important faces, characters, objects, landmarks, vehicles, and other essential visual information comfortably within the composition, with enough surrounding space to prevent important details from being lost near the edges.
The primary subject should remain recognizable and readable when the image is displayed on StarForgeRP at approximately 440 × 330 px.

Environment & Survival
**Standard Text**
Hoth's cold is an operational hazard rather than simple scenery. SWTOR describes subzero temperatures, shearing winds, frequent whiteouts, and conditions severe enough that communications systems and mechanical equipment may freeze or malfunction even when their users are properly outfitted.
Cold-weather clothing or insulated armor is therefore only part of preparing for travel. Power, heating, communications, navigation, transportation, maintenance equipment, emergency shelter, and the ability to recover from a breakdown can all determine whether an expedition succeeds.
Vehicles are affected as well. Smaller or poorly adapted machines are particularly vulnerable to the cold, while heavier vehicles require appropriate preparation and maintenance. Tauntauns provide a native alternative capable of navigating Hoth's environment, and later SWTOR material establishes successful domestication of some populations as mounts.
These conditions make isolation easy to justify. Characters do not need to travel impossibly far from an established base to become dependent upon one another. A storm, damaged generator, failed transmitter, injured traveler, disabled vehicle, or blocked route can cut a group off from help while still leaving rescue possible.

War, Wreckage & Salvage
**Standard Text**
During the Great Galactic War, Imperial forces ambushed a major Republic fleet around Hoth. The engagement destroyed vessels belonging to both sides and brought down some of the Republic's most advanced warships, including the prototype superdreadnought Star of Coruscant.
Heavy snowfall and shifting ice gradually buried or obscured much of the wreckage. Individual ships became enormous ruins in their own right: fractured hulls, sealed compartments, damaged power systems, abandoned droids, inaccessible cargo, military records, experimental equipment, and other material could remain hidden beneath decades of ice.
The White Maw recognized that opportunity before either government mounted a full recovery. The confederation brought pirates, mercenaries, droids, and salvage operations to Hoth, stripping wreckage for technology and attempting to turn recovered components into military power of its own.
When Republic and Imperial forces later returned, salvage became inseparable from sovereignty and military rivalry. A ship may be physically abandoned while still being considered government property, pirate territory, the subject of a recovery contract, or the objective of a competing expedition.
For roleplay, this means the most interesting question is often not whether a wreck contains something valuable. It is who knows about it, who believes they own it, what it will cost to recover, and what happens when several claimants arrive at once.

Conflict & Local Presence
**Subheading**
Galactic Republic
**Standard Text**
During SWTOR's original Hoth conflict, Aurek Base in the Whiterock Wastes serves as the Republic's principal military foothold. Republic operations extend well beyond conventional combat: engineers, technicians, scouts, medics, pilots, intelligence personnel, supply crews, recovery teams, scientists, and contractors all have believable reasons to work from Hoth.
Republic personnel also operate beside local allies. Ortolan settlers assisted in the establishment of Aurek Base, while specialized Talz commandos fought for the Republic in Hoth's cold-weather campaigns.
**Subheading**
Sith Empire
**Standard Text**
Dorn Base in the Icefall Plains serves as the principal Imperial stronghold during the original planetary conflict. Imperial forces pursue wreckage, conduct recovery operations, defend fortified positions, contest Republic advances, and attempt to deny valuable technology to both military and pirate rivals.
Hoth therefore supports Imperial stories centered on logistics, engineering, intelligence, military recovery, reconnaissance, technical evaluation, and survival as readily as it supports direct combat.
**Subheading**
The White Maw
**Standard Text**
The White Maw is a confederation of smaller pirate crews rather than a conventional government or military. Its members are united by the extraordinary wealth represented by Hoth's wrecks, even while individual crews and leaders compete among themselves.
White Maw forces use ambushes, hidden camps, salvaged technology, mercenaries, and knowledge of difficult terrain to challenge opponents with far greater conventional resources. Their presence makes piracy on Hoth more than random banditry: control of a wreck, supply route, geothermal facility, cave network, or piece of recovered technology can carry real economic and military value.
Independent salvagers and criminals do not automatically belong to the White Maw. Legitimate recovery contractors, unaffiliated crews, smugglers, prospectors, information brokers, and opportunists can operate in the same environment for very different reasons.
**Heading**
Settlers, Forces & Native Life
**Subheading**
Ortolan Settlers
**Standard Text**
Ortolan explorers established a permanent colony on Hoth before the Republic–Imperial recovery conflict reached its height. They occupied the abandoned Crescent Canyon Facility and developed geothermal infrastructure capable of providing heat and power in an environment otherwise hostile to permanent settlement.
Their history gives Hoth an important civilian dimension. The planet is not populated only by temporary armies and pirates. Settlers, technicians, traders, infrastructure workers, guides, and people attempting to preserve an independent community can all have interests that do not align neatly with the larger factions fighting around them.
**Subheading**
Talz Commandos
**Standard Text**
SWTOR establishes Talz serving in specialized Republic commando formations suited to cold-weather warfare, including operations on Hoth. Their presence should be understood primarily through those military forces rather than by assuming that the Talz are a native Hoth population.
Individual Talz need not share one opinion of the Republic or military service. SWTOR itself distinguishes between those who accept Republic service and those who reject the idea of fighting under an outside authority.
**Subheading**
Skels
**Standard Text**
Skels are intelligent native inhabitants biologically adapted to Hoth's frozen plains. They hunt in coordinated groups, use simple weapons, and can burrow through deep snow and ice to ambush intruders.
They should not be reduced to ordinary wildlife simply because SWTOR places their codex entry within its bestiary material. Their organized presence predates the Republic, Empire, and White Maw, giving them their own relationship to a world that outsiders increasingly treat as a military salvage field.
**Subheading**
Tauntauns, Wampas & Other Wildlife
**Standard Text**
Tauntauns occupy an important place in Hoth's ecosystem and are exceptionally well adapted to movement through cold and whiteout conditions. Their value as transportation eventually led to successful domestication efforts.
Wampas are powerful predators associated with caves and remote wilderness, while whitefangs and other dangerous animals add further risk to travel beyond defended installations.
Wildlife works best when it affects the circumstances of a scene. A tauntaun may provide the only reliable route through worsening weather, a predator may occupy the shelter a stranded group needs, or animal movement may provide the first indication that something is wrong nearby.

Notable Regions & Locations
**List**
* Whiterock Wastes — Broad snowfields containing Aurek Base and other Republic positions. The openness of the terrain makes movement visible and exposes installations to attack.* Icefall Plains — The principal Imperial staging region during the original Hoth conflict. Dorn Base and smaller fortified positions support Imperial operations against Republic and White Maw forces.* Highmount Ridge — Mountainous and contested territory associated with Ortolan settlement and important geothermal infrastructure. Its combination of wilderness, local communities, and strategic resources makes it useful for stories that are not purely military.* Crescent Canyon Facility & Tromper Crags — Crescent Canyon began as a mining facility established by **Czerka Corporation** ([Czerka Corporation page](https://www.starforgerp.com/lore/organizations/czerka-corporation?utm_source=chatgpt.com)) before being abandoned and later occupied by Ortolan settlers. The nearby Tromper Crags Geothermal Plant draws power from Hoth's underground volcanic activity and became a valuable strategic objective.* Clabburn Tundra — A region of snow dunes, frozen geysers, hostile wildlife, and competing military positions. Its fractured control makes it suitable for patrols, lost units, contested routes, wildlife encounters, and field operations.* Glacial Fissure — Deep ice canyons and extensive cave networks historically used by the White Maw for camps, supply routes, concealment, and ambushes.* Starship Graveyard — Hoth's defining SWTOR-era location: a concentrated field of Republic and Imperial wreckage left by the Great Galactic War. Some vessels are buried or broken apart, while others remain large enough for their interiors to function as complete adventure locations.* Star of Coruscant — The most famous wreck in the graveyard, an advanced Republic superdreadnought whose surviving hull became a major White Maw stronghold during the original conflict.

Hoth Across the SWTOR Era
**Standard Text**
The Republic–Imperial–White Maw struggle of SWTOR's original planetary storyline is only one period in Hoth's history.
During the Eternal Empire's domination of the galaxy, Hoth was among the worlds subjected to an orbital Star Fortress. Local resistance activity became part of the wider campaign against Zakuulan control, culminating in operations against the fortress and its planetary defenses.
Later SWTOR open-world content again depicts activity on Hoth involving the White Maw, Republic and Imperial attacks, and incursions connected to the Hidden Chain. Those later appearances reinforce Hoth's continuing usefulness as an active frontier rather than requiring the exact territorial arrangement of the original planetary storyline to remain unchanged indefinitely.
The enduring features are more important: dangerous wilderness, valuable wreckage, isolated infrastructure, competing military interests, piracy, and communities that must survive between larger powers.
For the wider galactic circumstances surrounding StarForgeRP's present-day continuity, see **Current Setting** ([Current Setting page](https://www.starforgerp.com/timeline/current-setting?utm_source=chatgpt.com)).

SWTOR-Era Distinction
**Standard Text**
Hoth is strongly associated in later galactic history with Echo Base and the Rebel Alliance, but those events occur thousands of years after the SWTOR era.
Old Republic roleplay should therefore draw its political, military, technological, and visual context from SWTOR-era Hoth: the Great Galactic War wreckage, White Maw salvage operations, Republic and Imperial expeditions, local settlements, native life, and later SWTOR developments—not from the Galactic Civil War.

Using Hoth in Roleplay
**Standard Text**
Hoth is particularly effective for contained stories because both the environment and the competing interests on the planet create believable limits on what characters can accomplish alone.
**List**
* Salvage & Recovery — Locate a wreck, recover equipment or records, identify a lost vessel, secure dangerous technology, or reach a site before another claimant does.* Search & Rescue — Find a missing patrol, survey team, transport crew, traveler, settler, or salvager before weather, equipment failure, or wildlife makes recovery impossible.* Military Operations — Escort supplies, defend an installation, scout hostile movement, investigate missing communications, sabotage a rival recovery effort, or secure strategic ground.* Intelligence — Determine why another faction wants a particular wreck, recover sensitive records, conceal evidence, trace stolen technology, or identify who is financing a salvage operation.* Piracy & Smuggling — Move recovered equipment off-world, raid a supply route, negotiate with pirate crews, fence military components, or become trapped between the White Maw and a larger power.* Civilian & Technical Stories — Maintain geothermal systems, repair equipment, transport supplies, guide expeditions, research wildlife, operate a recovery business, or support an isolated community.* Exploration — Investigate wreckage revealed by shifting ice, unfamiliar caves, abandoned installations, geological anomalies, or old sites whose original records have been lost.* Survival — Use damaged heating, depleted power, worsening weather, an injured companion, a lost mount, mechanical failure, or inaccessible shelter to create pressure without requiring a galactic-scale threat.
