**Title**
Makeb
**Small Text / Caption**
A wealthy mesa world reshaped by Hutt conquest, isotope-5 extraction, and a planetary crisis whose consequences lasted far beyond the original battle.
**Heading**
Overview
**Standard Text**
Makeb is a secluded world of towering stone mesas, deep cloud-filled chasms, mineral wealth, prosperous settlements, and unusual gravitational conditions. Its position away from major hyperspace routes allowed an independent society to develop beyond direct Republic or Imperial rule, while mining, banking, tourism, and private enterprise connected the planet closely to the wider galaxy.
That independence ended when forces associated with the **Hutt Cartel** (https://www.starforgerp.com/lore/factions-powers/hutt-cartel) seized Makeb's government, security apparatus, and resources. Behind the occupation was isotope-5, an extraordinarily rare mineral whose effects on gravitational and electromagnetic fields offered major possibilities for energy production and advanced technology.
Aggressive deep-core extraction destabilized the planet itself. Groundquakes, atmospheric disturbances, collapsing infrastructure, occupation, evacuation, and intervention by both the **Galactic Republic** (https://www.starforgerp.com/lore/factions-powers/galactic-republic) and **Sith Empire** (https://www.starforgerp.com/lore/factions-powers/sith-empire) transformed Makeb from an affluent neutral world into one of the defining crises of the renewed galactic war.
For roleplay, Makeb supports stories well beyond military service. Miners, engineers, bankers, merchants, transport crews, mercenaries, scientists, refugees, business owners, relief personnel, former collaborators, displaced families, returning residents, and people shaped by the long aftermath of the crisis can all have believable connections to the world.

Suggested Placement:
Below the Overview.
Suggested Subject / Description:
A wide environmental view of inhabited Makeb, centered on one immense stone mesa rising above a cloud-filled chasm. Developed terraces, pale Old Republic-era structures, vegetation, waterfalls, industrial infrastructure, and a distant gravity hook should establish the contrast between the planet's natural beauty, accumulated wealth, and precarious geography. The composition should read primarily as a believable inhabited world rather than as a battlefield.
Suggested Format:
4:3 website image.
Visual Continuity:
Use the realistic cinematic presentation established for StarForgeRP environmental artwork. The principal mesa and settlement should remain immediately readable at approximately 440 × 330 px. Keep major architecture and the gravity hook comfortably inside the frame rather than near the crop boundary.
Era / Lore Requirements:
The environment should reflect Makeb as depicted in the SWTOR era: enormous elevated mesas and stone pillars, deep clouds and chasms, developed settlements, waterfalls and vegetation where appropriate, and Old Republic-era industrial technology. A gravity hook may appear as a large surface-to-orbit industrial structure. Avoid later-era Imperial, Rebel, First Order, or other visually distinctive later Star Wars designs.
Reference Material:
Official SWTOR depictions of Makeb may be consulted for geological, architectural, environmental, and gravity-hook accuracy. The finished artwork should be an original composition rather than a reproduction of an existing promotional screenshot or concept image.

Image Generation Prompt
Image Subject
A broad environmental view of Makeb during the Old Republic era. The primary subject is one of the planet's immense inhabited stone mesas rising high above a deep layer of clouds and surrounding chasms. Developed terraces and pale, elegant SWTOR-era buildings occupy portions of the elevated terrain, alongside restrained industrial infrastructure suited to a wealthy mining and commercial world. Vegetation and waterfalls soften the rocky landscape. In the middle or far distance, include one recognizable Makebian gravity hook: a large industrial surface-to-orbit structure integrated into the mesa infrastructure.
The scene should communicate three qualities at once: Makeb's striking natural beauty, the wealth and sophistication created by its mineral economy, and the physical vulnerability created by settlements built across isolated high mesas. It should feel inhabited and functional rather than ruined or dominated by combat.
Do not depict the planet as a desert wasteland, a permanently destroyed world, or an exclusively Imperial colony. Do not add large battles, faction armies, lightsabers, isotope-5 crystals, Hutt monuments, or visible disaster effects merely for spectacle. No specific present-day political authority needs to be visually identified.
Core Prompt
Create an original 4:3 visual for the StarForgeRP website based on the Image Subject described above.
Use a realistic, cinematic concept-art presentation appropriate to Star Wars: The Old Republic and the broader Old Republic era. The image should feel grounded, detailed, atmospheric, and believable, with restrained visual storytelling rather than exaggerated spectacle.
Maintain visual compatibility with the broader StarForgeRP artwork collection without forcing every subject into identical colors or lighting. Dark blue, navy, charcoal, muted metallic tones, cool environmental light, and selective warm gold or amber illumination may provide a recurring visual foundation where appropriate. Allow the natural colors of a character, world, culture, environment, object, or scene to remain recognizable when they are important to the subject.
Compose the scene according to what it needs to communicate. Characters, locations, landscapes, historical scenes, artifacts, architecture, starships, organizations, cultural subjects, technology, and archival compositions do not require identical framing. Give the primary subject a clear visual focus while allowing the surrounding environment to provide useful context, scale, and atmosphere.
Prioritize SWTOR-era and Old Republic-era visual language. Clothing, armor, architecture, starships, weapons, equipment, terminals, droids, vehicles, furnishings, and other technology should feel appropriate to that period when they appear. Avoid designs strongly associated with later Star Wars eras unless the individual Image Subject specifically requires them.
When the subject is tied to a particular faction, organization, culture, location, historical period, or StarForgeRP development, follow the supplied lore and continuity information rather than replacing it with generic Star Wars imagery.
Do not invent lore-significant uniforms, insignia, technology, architecture, symbols, relationships, events, or outcomes merely to make the image more elaborate.
When an uncertain detail is not necessary to the composition, it may remain visually unspecified.
Where appropriate, use environmental depth, atmospheric haze, practical or holographic illumination, weather, planetary terrain, architecture, machinery, interiors, crowds, distant activity, or culturally appropriate surroundings.
Background detail should support the primary subject and help establish the setting without overwhelming the composition.
For original StarForgeRP characters and other community-created subjects, follow supplied descriptions and reference material when available.
Preserve specifically requested identifying features, proportions, clothing, equipment, markings, colors, or other established design elements while creating a new composition rather than closely reproducing unrelated artwork.
If no reference image is supplied, create an original interpretation from the written description. Do not request a reference merely because one could improve precision.
Weapons should appear only when relevant to the subject.
Lightsabers should not be added merely as general Star Wars decoration; include them only when they meaningfully belong to the character, event, location, activity, or subject being depicted.
Do not include titles, captions, logos, borders, watermarks, webpage elements, decorative written language, readable interface labels, or other visible text unless the individual Image Subject specifically calls for them.
Compose the artwork for a 4:3 frame.
Keep important faces, characters, objects, landmarks, vehicles, and other essential visual information comfortably within the composition, with enough surrounding space to prevent important details from being lost near the edges.
The primary subject should remain recognizable and readable when the image is displayed on StarForgeRP at approximately 440 × 330 px.

Geography & Environment
**Standard Text**
Makeb's most recognizable terrain consists of enormous natural stone pillars and mesas rising above deep cloud layers. Settlements, estates, industrial facilities, roads, and landing areas occupy the elevated surfaces, while extensive cave systems and mineral deposits extend through the formations below.
The planet's unusual gravitational conditions helped produce this distinctive landscape. Isotope-5 may also contribute to Makeb's gravitational anomalies, atmospheric interference, and mesa formations, although knowledge of the mineral was highly restricted during the original crisis.
The separation between mesas has major practical consequences. Two settlements that appear geographically close may still depend upon shuttles, bridges, lifts, or specialized transport because of the immense chasms between them.
Makeb also supports native wildlife throughout its plains, cliffs, and cave systems, including species such as the makrin creeper.
**Subheading**
Groundquakes & Instability
**Standard Text**
Groundquakes had become increasingly common even before the Hutt occupation. Intensive isotope-5 extraction then pushed the planet toward catastrophe, producing severe quakes, magnetic disturbances, atmospheric hazards, collapsing structures, and fractures through populated areas.
Imperial intervention prevented the predicted destruction of Makeb. A subsequent SWTOR intelligence report nevertheless described atmospheric and geophysical conditions as continuing to deteriorate while Imperial isotope-5 extraction proceeded.
Later SWTOR events confirm that Makeb remained intact years afterward, but they do not establish that every geological problem was permanently resolved.

Settlement, Economy & Society
**Standard Text**
Makeb's modern settlement began during the Mandalorian Wars, when a damaged transport carrying Republic refugees crashed on the previously isolated world. The survivors established communities, reconnected with the galaxy, and used the planet's mineral deposits and their existing commercial resources to build an exceptionally profitable economy.
Within generations, Makeb had become known for more than mining. Banks, corporations, wealthy visitors, resorts, investors, and other offworld interests were drawn to a prosperous world that remained politically independent from both the Republic and Empire.
That prosperity should not be mistaken for universal wealth. The economy also depended upon miners, technicians, engineers, transport crews, agricultural workers, service employees, administrators, security personnel, construction workers, merchants, and many other people whose lives were far removed from luxury resorts or corporate boardrooms.
Makeb's independence likewise did not mean isolation. Its society depended upon offworld trade and investment while deliberately resisting incorporation into the galaxy's major political blocs.
**Subheading**
Security & the Regulators
**Standard Text**
Before the conquest, Makeb contracted the InterStellar Regulators, a prominent mercenary organization, to provide planet-wide security. Hutt interests eventually bribed senior Regulators into participating in the takeover. Personnel who refused to betray Makeb were killed or driven from the planet.
For Makebian characters, the episode can make private military forces, hired security, corporate influence, and political loyalty more complicated subjects than they might be elsewhere. Service with the Regulators also does not automatically mean that a character supported the Hutt coup; SWTOR explicitly establishes internal resistance to the betrayal.
**Heading**
Isotope-5
**Standard Text**
Isotope-5 was discovered through deep-core mining on Makeb and kept secret from most of the galaxy. Even minute quantities can distort gravitational and electromagnetic fields, while research identified extraordinary potential for controlled energy generation.
Those properties made the mineral strategically transformative. Toborro intended to use isotope-5 to elevate the Hutt Cartel into a power capable of challenging both the Republic and Empire, while Imperial leaders saw access to it as an opportunity to compensate for severe military and resource losses.
The Empire ultimately secured isotope-5 from Makeb. Subsequent Imperial research concentrated particularly on power generation and gravity manipulation, and later reports confirm that extraction continued after the original crisis.
For roleplay, isotope-5 is better treated as a rare and politically sensitive strategic material than as ordinary valuable cargo. Mining access, refined samples, technical records, abandoned equipment, or research connected to it can reasonably attract military, intelligence, scientific, corporate, and criminal interest without making the substance commonplace.

The Makeb Crisis
**Subheading**
From Independence to Occupation
**Standard Text**
Long before open conquest, Hutt interests had attempted to gain influence within Makeb's economy. The planet's business interests resisted direct Hutt investment, but individual Hutts continued establishing connections within local society.
Under Toborro, those ambitions became an outright seizure of the planet. Hutt forces took control of government institutions, resources, and compromised security forces while publicly presenting the transition as though ordinary business would continue.
Many former Makebian leaders responded by appealing to the Republic and declaring for Republic membership.
**Subheading**
A Planet in Collapse
**Standard Text**
The occupation concealed an even greater danger. Toborro's isotope-5 operations were extracting material from deep within Makeb and accelerating the planet's geological instability.
What began as a political occupation therefore became an environmental emergency. Settlements suffered catastrophic groundquake damage, atmospheric conditions interfered with travel, infrastructure failed, and increasing numbers of civilians faced evacuation from a planet that appeared to be approaching destruction.
**Subheading**
Republic & Imperial Intervention
**Standard Text**
The Republic became directly involved in opposing Toborro and protecting Makeb's threatened population. As the crisis worsened, evacuation became a central concern. Other powerful Hutts eventually abandoned Toborro and sought Republic protection, ending his attempt to use Makeb as the foundation of a new Hutt galactic power.
The Empire pursued a different objective. Imperial forces covertly entered Makeb to secure isotope-5 and ultimately helped prevent the planet's destruction while obtaining access to the resource.
The crisis therefore cannot be reduced to a simple Republic-versus-Empire battle for possession of the world. Local resistance, Hutt internal politics, Republic relief and military activity, Imperial resource operations, evacuation, corporate interests, and environmental collapse all unfolded at the same time.
The broader event is placed in approximately 3638 BBY / 15 ATC within the **Galactic Timeline** (https://www.starforgerp.com/timeline/galactic-timeline).
**Heading**
Aftermath & Later SWTOR Evidence
**Standard Text**
Makeb survived the catastrophe. In the immediate aftermath, Imperial forces continued mining isotope-5 while the planet's atmospheric and geophysical conditions remained unstable. The resource contributed significantly to Imperial recovery, particularly through advances in energy production and gravity-related technology.
Years later, SWTOR returned to Makeb during the Destroyer of Worlds uprising. Alliance forces entered subterranean portions of the planet to stop Jedi Master Adelade from awakening Gethul, an ancient creature whose emergence threatened to destabilize Makeb's core and destroy the world.
That later event establishes that Makeb remained intact and accessible well beyond the original crisis. It does not, however, provide a comprehensive account of the planet's government, civilian reconstruction, territorial allegiance, isotope-5 reserves, population movements, or environmental recovery across the years that followed.
For the broader circumstances surrounding stories in StarForgeRP's present-day continuity, see **Current Setting** (https://www.starforgerp.com/timeline/current-setting).
**Heading**
Travel & Infrastructure
**Standard Text**
Makeb's remoteness helped protect its political independence, but it never prevented regular offworld commerce. Before the crisis, mining exports, tourism, finance, and corporate activity all depended upon substantial connections with the wider galaxy.
The greater difficulty begins after arrival. Atmospheric interference and the separation of populated mesas can make conventional transport challenging. During the crisis, Strategic Information Service reconnaissance considered large direct landings especially dangerous and expected small shuttle deployments to be more practical.
Makeb's gravity hooks helped solve part of that problem. These immense industrial systems connected surface installations with orbital stations by turbolift and supported the movement of goods, supplies, travelers, and mineral shipments between the planet and orbit.
Later SWTOR material does not provide a complete inventory of which individual transportation systems survived, failed, or were rebuilt. Stories can therefore distinguish between well-maintained routes, damaged infrastructure, isolated areas, and reconstructed connections when StarForgeRP continuity establishes those circumstances.

Important Locations
**Subheading**
Talaos City
**Standard Text**
**Talaos City** (https://www.starforgerp.com/galaxy/cities-settlements/talaos-city) is Makeb's capital and one of the clearest examples of the planet's former prosperity. Banking, technology, commerce, residences, civic spaces, and cultural life made it more than a mining settlement, while occupation and severe groundquake damage later transformed parts of the city.
The dedicated Talaos City entry covers its districts, civilian life, occupation history, and roleplay possibilities in greater detail.
**Subheading**
Avesta Plantation
**Standard Text**
Owned during the crisis by business magnate Shalim Avesta, Avesta Plantation became an important base for local resistance and Republic operations. Its relative isolation initially protected it from some of the strongest effects of the takeover.
**Subheading**
Gravity Hooks
**Standard Text**
Gravity hooks linked Makeb's surface with orbital infrastructure and were central to industrial transportation. Their loading areas, machinery, workers, cargo traffic, security requirements, and dependence upon functioning infrastructure make them especially useful for transport, engineering, commercial, smuggling, sabotage, and emergency-response stories.
**Subheading**
Toborro's Palace & Former Hutt Installations
**Standard Text**
Toborro's palace served as the command center of the occupation, while other fortified installations protected Hutt personnel, resources, and isotope-5 operations. Their importance is most firmly established during the crisis itself.
Former occupation sites can provide historical context for later stories involving salvage, abandoned defenses, records, reconstruction, ownership disputes, or traces of the Hutt presence when those later conditions are established within StarForgeRP continuity.

Using Makeb in Roleplay
**List**
* A Makebian character may come from wealth, ordinary urban life, mining communities, commercial families, transportation work, private security, agriculture, technical professions, or many other backgrounds.* Characters old enough to remember the crisis may have experienced occupation, evacuation, military operations, lost property, collaboration, resistance, displacement, financial ruin, or sudden opportunity.* Refugees and their descendants may maintain strong ties to Makeb even after establishing lives elsewhere.* Former Regulators can have very different histories depending upon whether they participated in the Hutt coup, resisted it, deserted, or simply tried to survive its consequences.* Engineers, scientists, miners, intelligence personnel, and criminals may have reasons to pursue isotope-5 information or infrastructure, but direct access to the material should remain consequential.* Returning residents may encounter disputes over property, inheritance, businesses, records, reconstruction, or responsibility for decisions made during the occupation.* Makebians do not need to share one political view. Republic assistance, Hutt conquest, Imperial intervention, commercial interests, and personal experience can produce sharply different interpretations of the same history.* A modern visitor may know Makeb chiefly as a historic disaster site, unusual research destination, commercial world, family homeland, strategic resource location, or remote place whose reputation is larger than their actual knowledge of it.
