Overview
**Standard Text**
Elom is a remote world in the Sertar sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Much of its surface is cold, dry, and sparsely developed, with frozen hard-packed sand, exposed dark stone, rugged mountain ranges, and scattered crimson vegetation. Local mining enterprises operate in some regions, but enormous stretches of wilderness remain lightly explored and far removed from major population centers.
For much of the SWTOR era, that isolation kept Elom comparatively obscure. Its wider importance changed when the trail of artifacts pursued by Darth Malgus led investigators to an ancient Sith fortress hidden in the planet's wilderness. The site was eventually identified with Darth Nul, a mysterious Sith whose work had been deliberately removed from surviving records. Later expeditions returned to the ruins and uncovered still deeper evidence of her research.
Elom consequently supports several very different kinds of roleplay. It can be a mining world, a difficult wilderness, the home of distinct native communities, a destination for archaeologists and historians, a politically sensitive expedition site, or simply a remote place where transportation, supplies, weather, wildlife, and distance from help matter.

Suggested Placement:
Below the Overview, before Quick Reference.
Suggested Subject / Description:
A wide environmental view of Elom emphasizing the planet rather than a particular character: frozen hard-packed desert, exposed black stone, rough mountain ridges, sparse crimson vegetation, and the distant ruined Temple of Nul. The composition should immediately distinguish Elom from a conventional snow-covered ice world while establishing the isolation that makes exploration and field operations difficult.
Suggested Format:
4:3 landscape website image.
Visual Continuity:
Use the same realistic, cinematic Old Republic presentation as other major StarForgeRP environmental artwork. Keep the distant ruin recognizable but subordinate to the landscape so the image continues to represent Elom as a planet rather than functioning solely as an illustration of the Temple of Nul.
Era / Lore Requirements:
Elom should appear cold and arid rather than glacial: substantial exposed dark rock and frozen sand should remain visible. Use sparse crimson flora as an important visual identifier. The Sith structure should use ancient SWTOR/Old Republic architectural language and appear weathered and partly ruined. Avoid Galactic Empire-era architecture or insignia, later-era Imperial imagery, extensive modern settlement, lush vegetation, enormous glaciers, or a pristine functioning Sith complex.
Reference Material:
Official SWTOR Elom environmental imagery and the descriptions preserved in the Elom codex and Denolm Orr's expedition report may be used as visual references. No supplied image is required for original generation.
Recommended Alt Text:
Elom's frozen desert and black mountain ridges surrounding the distant ruined Temple of Nul, with sparse crimson vegetation across the plain.
Image Generation Prompt
Image Subject
A wide environmental view of the planet Elom during the SWTOR era. The foreground is a bleak frozen desert of hard-packed pale sand mixed with exposed dark stone, with sparse patches of hardy crimson grass and low vegetation. Beyond it rises a long, rough range of dark, blunted mountains visually consistent with the Charred Divide. In the distance stands the weathered ruin of the Temple of Nul, an ancient Sith fortress built from massive dark stone forms and partially reclaimed by erosion and centuries of abandonment.
The environment should feel cold, dry, windy, isolated, and difficult to cross rather than resembling a glacier-covered ice world. Keep significant areas of exposed rock and frozen desert visible. The crimson vegetation should provide restrained visual contrast without making the environment lush.
The Temple of Nul should use ancient Old Republic/SWTOR Sith architectural language and appear monumental but damaged, remote, and archaeological rather than actively occupied. Do not use later Galactic Empire architecture, Imperial cog symbols, modern city structures, readable Sith writing, or decorative text. Do not add characters, active battle scenes, lightsabers, or weapons. The landscape itself is the primary subject.
Established visual requirements: cold arid environment; frozen hard-packed sand; dark stone; rough mountains; sparse crimson vegetation; ancient ruined Sith architecture; strong isolation.
Artistic latitude: exact cloud cover, atmospheric haze, erosion patterns, distant terrain, and arrangement of vegetation may vary so long as Elom remains recognizable and lore-compatible.
Core Prompt
Create an original 4:3 visual for the StarForgeRP website based on the Image Subject described above.
Use a realistic, cinematic concept-art presentation appropriate to Star Wars: The Old Republic and the broader Old Republic era. The image should feel grounded, detailed, atmospheric, and believable, with restrained visual storytelling rather than exaggerated spectacle.
Maintain visual compatibility with the broader StarForgeRP artwork collection without forcing every subject into identical colors or lighting. Dark blue, navy, charcoal, muted metallic tones, cool environmental light, and selective warm gold or amber illumination may provide a recurring visual foundation where appropriate. Allow the natural colors of a character, world, culture, environment, object, or scene to remain recognizable when they are important to the subject.
Compose the scene according to what it needs to communicate. Characters, locations, landscapes, historical scenes, artifacts, architecture, starships, organizations, cultural subjects, technology, and archival compositions do not require identical framing. Give the primary subject a clear visual focus while allowing the surrounding environment to provide useful context, scale, and atmosphere.
Prioritize SWTOR-era and Old Republic-era visual language. Clothing, armor, architecture, starships, weapons, equipment, terminals, droids, vehicles, furnishings, and other technology should feel appropriate to that period when they appear. Avoid designs strongly associated with later Star Wars eras unless the individual Image Subject specifically requires them.
When the subject is tied to a particular faction, organization, culture, location, historical period, or StarForgeRP development, follow the supplied lore and continuity information rather than replacing it with generic Star Wars imagery.
Do not invent lore-significant uniforms, insignia, technology, architecture, symbols, relationships, events, or outcomes merely to make the image more elaborate.
When an uncertain detail is not necessary to the composition, it may remain visually unspecified.
Where appropriate, use environmental depth, atmospheric haze, practical or holographic illumination, weather, planetary terrain, architecture, machinery, interiors, crowds, distant activity, or culturally appropriate surroundings.
Background detail should support the primary subject and help establish the setting without overwhelming the composition.
For original StarForgeRP characters and other community-created subjects, follow supplied descriptions and reference material when available.
Preserve specifically requested identifying features, proportions, clothing, equipment, markings, colors, or other established design elements while creating a new composition rather than closely reproducing unrelated artwork.
If no reference image is supplied, create an original interpretation from the written description. Do not request a reference merely because one could improve precision.
Weapons should appear only when relevant to the subject.
Lightsabers should not be added merely as general Star Wars decoration; include them only when they meaningfully belong to the character, event, location, activity, or subject being depicted.
Do not include titles, captions, logos, borders, watermarks, webpage elements, decorative written language, readable interface labels, or other visible text unless the individual Image Subject specifically calls for them.
Compose the artwork for a 4:3 frame.
Keep important faces, characters, objects, landmarks, vehicles, and other essential visual information comfortably within the composition, with enough surrounding space to prevent important details from being lost near the edges.
The primary subject should remain recognizable and readable when the image is displayed on StarForgeRP at approximately 440 × 330 px.

Environment & Geography
**Standard Text**
Elom is cold without being a conventional ice world. SWTOR describes broad expanses of frozen, hard-packed sand and dark stone beneath rugged mountains, while the planetary codex characterizes much of the surface as an arid wilderness of frigid deserts and unexplored territory. Water scarcity has shaped both habitation and the history of the planet's native peoples.
The resulting landscape can be visually severe without being featureless. Bare rock, dry frozen plains, mountain passes, sparse hardy vegetation, and long distances between developed areas all contribute to Elom's isolation. Shelter, transportation, communications, dependable supplies, and knowledge of local terrain can therefore matter substantially to anyone operating far from established settlements.
**Subheading**
The Charred Divide
**Standard Text**
Jedi Master Denolm Orr gave the name Charred Divide to the long range of rough, dark mountains crossing the region his expedition surveyed. He chose it for the contrast between the black stone and streaks of crimson vegetation descending toward the surrounding plains.
The name is therefore associated with Orr's expedition rather than being established as an ancient or indigenous designation.

Peoples & Settlement
**Standard Text**
Elom is the homeworld of two distinct sentient species: the Elom and the Elomin. SWTOR's planetary records describe their communities as having developed in dramatically different environments. Persistent drought drove the Elom toward subterranean caves where water was more dependable, while the Elomin established settlements on the surface.
Those different settlement patterns allowed the two populations to develop for long periods with surprisingly little awareness of one another. That history provides useful context for the planet without implying that either species possesses one uniform culture, outlook, profession, or attitude toward outsiders.
An expedition report prepared before the discovery of Darth Nul's fortress described scattered indigenous communities in the surveyed region as traditionally reluctant to deal with outsiders. That observation concerns particular communities and circumstances rather than establishing a universal trait of every Elom or Elomin person.

Mining, Travel & Access
**Standard Text**
Some regions of Elom support local mining enterprises, but SWTOR does not present the planet as a heavily industrialized mining center. Before the discovery of Darth Nul's ruins, Denolm Orr considered further mineral development and additional regional travel possible if sufficient investment were made; at the time, he still described Elom as largely insignificant to the wider galaxy.
That combination makes small and medium-scale activity especially believable. Prospectors, miners, surveyors, engineers, cargo crews, independent contractors, equipment suppliers, transport pilots, researchers, and support personnel can all have practical reasons to visit without requiring enormous cities or a planet-spanning industrial economy.
During the investigation into Darth Malgus, Elom lay within the territory of the **Sith Empire** (https://www.starforgerp.com/lore/factions-powers/sith-empire). The archaeological region itself was nevertheless far from a significant population center. Travel could therefore be both physically isolated and politically sensitive: a distant wilderness does not need a garrison on every ridge for unauthorized movement, archaeological work, or foreign activity to attract Imperial concern.
Long-term expeditions also require substantial logistical support. Orr's initial survey concluded that a permanent research presence near the ruins would need ample supplies and a largely self-sustaining base because convenient local resources were scarce.

The Temple of Nul
**Standard Text**
Elom possessed extensive architectural remains before Darth Nul's name returned to galactic attention, but the most important known site in the modern SWTOR era is the ruined Sith fortress now associated with her.
The trail began with Darth Malgus's search for obscure texts and artifacts. After he stole a nearly forgotten relic from the Jedi Enclave on **Dantooine** (https://www.starforgerp.com/galaxy/planets-moons/dantooine), investigators examined the dust and debris left where it had been stored. The material matched soil collected centuries earlier on Elom, giving the **Jedi Order** (https://www.starforgerp.com/lore/organizations/jedi-order) a direct lead to the remote ruins.
The expedition uncovered a site whose history had been deliberately obscured. The fortress contained machinery, defenses, a holocron, and other surviving evidence of Darth Nul's experiments. The confrontation there also brought Darth Malgus and Jedi Padawan Sa'har Kateen directly into the developing struggle over Nul's legacy.
Subsequent research demonstrated that the first expedition had exposed only part of the complex. Recovery teams later excavated deeper sections of the temple, reaching meditation areas, repair bays, fabrication chambers, and evidence of advanced cybernetic research. Active energy fields and surviving automated security remained concerns even after extensive archaeological work.
These discoveries established Elom as one of the most important surviving sources for understanding Darth Nul's work. They did not make every ruin on the planet part of her fortress. Earlier scouting reports had already recorded extensive remains from previous occupation elsewhere on Elom.
By the end of the Legacy of the Sith storyline, the immediate struggle surrounding Nul's machine had moved beyond Elom and culminated on Khar Shian. Elom nevertheless remains significant as the place where crucial evidence of her original work survived and where later investigators were able to reconstruct more of her history. For the broader consequences of those events, see **Current Setting** (https://www.starforgerp.com/timeline/current-setting).

Wildlife & Field Hazards
**Standard Text**
Isolation is only one of the dangers facing travelers in Elom's wilderness. Ranphyx are large feline predators adapted to its cold plains and mountain regions. SWTOR records describe them hunting in groups, and Denolm Orr specifically warned expedition personnel to prepare adequate defensive measures against them.
Ancient sites create additional hazards. Surviving security systems, unstable structures, automated defenses, unexplored chambers, damaged machinery, environmental exposure, and interference with survey equipment have all complicated work around Darth Nul's ruins.
That gives non-Force-sensitive specialists meaningful reasons to be part of an expedition. Pilots, mechanics, engineers, medics, scouts, security personnel, archaeologists, materials specialists, slicers, logistics crews, translators, survival experts, and transport teams may determine whether a remote operation succeeds long before anyone encounters a Sith artifact.

Using Elom in Roleplay
**Standard Text**
Elom works particularly well when distance and isolation change the scale of an otherwise ordinary problem. A lost survey crew, damaged transport, disputed excavation, failed mining operation, missing shipment, wildlife attack, or malfunctioning generator can become serious when the nearest dependable support is far away.
Its archaeological history also provides opportunities without requiring every expedition to uncover another artifact capable of changing the galaxy. Elom was known to contain extensive architectural remains before Darth Nul's fortress was identified, leaving room for damaged structures, incomplete records, abandoned equipment, local history, and discoveries whose importance is personal, scholarly, cultural, commercial, or regional rather than galactic.
**List**
* Archaeologists attempt to document a newly exposed structure before weather or unstable ground destroys it.* A mining survey discovers ruins inside a proposed extraction zone, creating conflict over access, ownership, safety, or preservation.* A supply crew sent to an isolated research camp arrives after communications have failed.* Researchers hire engineers, security personnel, medics, and wilderness specialists for a long-duration expedition beyond reliable infrastructure.* Local inhabitants and offworld personnel dispute excavation, mining, trespass, salvage, or the treatment of culturally important sites.* An unauthorized buyer offers substantial payment for material removed from an archaeological site.* A damaged vessel forces travelers to survive in the mountains while repairs and rescue become uncertain.* A discovery unrelated to Darth Nul reveals another layer of Elom's history without becoming a galaxy-wide crisis.

Character Knowledge
**Standard Text**
Elom's importance to players can be much greater than its importance to an ordinary person living elsewhere in the galaxy. Before the events surrounding Darth Nul, the planet was obscure enough for a contemporary expedition report to describe it as galactically insignificant.
The existence of Elom, its broad location, its native peoples, and its mining activity need not be secret. Detailed information about Darth Nul's fortress, recovered technology, Malgus's objectives, archaeological findings, or particular expedition events may be much less widely available.
A Jedi scholar, Sith researcher, Imperial intelligence specialist, archaeologist, expedition veteran, or someone with access to restricted records may therefore know far more than a trader who has only heard rumors about ancient ruins. Shared continuity establishes what happened; it does not automatically give every character the same information. **Current Setting** (https://www.starforgerp.com/timeline/current-setting) provides the broader continuity baseline for determining what events have occurred within StarForgeRP.
