Explore influential people from SWTOR and compatible Old Republic history through the consequences of their lives: institutions they shaped, communities they harmed or protected, teachings they transmitted, and reputations later generations inherited.

Darth Malak

Darth Malak fought beside Revan in the Mandalorian Wars before returning to Republic space as his Sith apprentice. He later attacked Revan’s flagship, seizing command while his injured master fell into Jedi hands.

During the Jedi Civil War, Malak ordered the bombardment of Taris to prevent Bastila Shan’s escape. Revan eventually defeated him aboard the Star Forge, ending his rule. Taris preserves a more enduring consequence: destroyed neighborhoods, displaced communities, surviving testimony, and reconstruction undertaken centuries afterward. His history connects the ambitions of a military ruler with losses experienced far beyond his immediate enemies.

Darth Marr

Darth Marr helped lead the Sith Empire during renewed galactic warfare and cooperated with Satele Shan against the Revanites on Yavin 4. After Ziost’s devastation, he commanded the expedition that pursued the Emperor into Wild Space. Captured by the Eternal Empire, Marr recognized Valkorion as the former Sith Emperor and was killed during their confrontation.

His spirit later appeared alongside Satele and offered guidance to the Outlander. Those encounters were distinct from his public military career. Veterans and contemporaries may remember his leadership firsthand without knowing what followed his death.

Darth Nul

Darth Nul was a Sith researcher whose surviving work drew later powers into a struggle over the Force. Her ruined fortress on Elom, her holocron, and her research vessel, the Enigma, provided different routes into the investigation of her history.

On Khar Shian, the Hidden Chain reconstructed her machine within Naga Sadow’s ancient fortress. Her legacy consequently extends beyond recovered teachings to technology that later actors sought to operate for their own purposes. Understanding an artifact’s function does not necessarily reveal everything about its creator, original purpose, or subsequent modification. The confrontation’s adopted consequences are covered in Current Setting.

Exar Kun

Exar Kun’s pursuit of forbidden knowledge led him from Jedi training to Freedon Nadd’s spirit, the tombs of Korriban, and the Massassi of Yavin 4. He enslaved the Massassi and joined forces with Ulic Qel-Droma, forming a Sith power that waged war against the Republic and Jedi.

The conflict devastated Ossus and scattered its accumulated knowledge. Facing defeat, Kun sacrificed Massassi followers to sustain himself as a spirit, which the Jedi confined within Yavin’s temples. His legacy survives through ruined sanctuaries, dangerous teachings, and the consequences of treating other lives as instruments of personal power.

Freedon Nadd

Freedon Nadd abandoned the Jedi, learned from Naga Sadow, and killed his Sith mentor before establishing himself as a tyrant in Iziz on Onderon. People he banished into the wilderness survived by taming its creatures. These Beast Riders became opponents whose struggle with Iziz continued beyond his reign.

Nadd also exerted influence after death, including through his guidance of Exar Kun toward Sith knowledge. Kun eventually destroyed his spirit. Nadd’s historical importance therefore includes both the transmission of forbidden teachings and the enduring divisions his rule helped create among Onderon’s communities.

Grand Moff Odile Vaiken

Odile Vaiken survived the ancient Sith Empire’s defeat and accompanied the exiles who eventually settled on Dromund Kaas. He organized military training and mobilized the non-Force-sensitive population, helping establish the foundations of the restored Empire’s armed forces.

His preparations for an Imperial armada began a project that would outlast him, and he became the Empire’s first Grand Moff. The Imperial Military preserves his institutional legacy through its history of organized service, while Vaiken Spacedock commemorates his name. These connections establish lasting influence without implying that every later military practice remained unchanged.

Mandalore the Ultimate

Mandalore the Ultimate united clans and expanded the Neo-Crusader armies through campaigns that brought them into war with the Republic. Revan and Malak intervened despite the Jedi Council’s opposition. Revan killed Mandalore, and the Mandalorians suffered defeat.

His reputation remained available for later Mandalorians to admire, criticize, or reinterpret. Heta Kol’s Hidden Chain invoked the Neo-Crusader example in a different struggle centuries afterward. That appeal connected later ambitions with an earlier age of conquest; it did not make the coalition an uninterrupted continuation of Mandalore’s army or establish a single Mandalorian judgment of his legacy.

Naga Sadow

Naga Sadow used deception and fear of Republic aggression to consolidate power before launching the Great Hyperspace War. Defeat eventually drove him into exile on Yavin 4, where his experiments on Massassi followers and his surviving installations left a dangerous inheritance. Freedon Nadd later became his apprentice and killed him.

Sadow’s influence also survived through places reused long after his lifetime. His fortress on Khar Shian became the site of the reconstructed machine associated with Darth Nul. That later occupation connects two histories without establishing that Sadow participated in, or anticipated, Nul’s research.

Revan

Revan led Jedi into the Mandalorian Wars, encountered the concealed Sith Empire, and returned as a Sith conqueror. Malak’s betrayal placed the injured Revan in Jedi custody. Given a new identity and retrained, Revan defeated Malak and helped end the Jedi Civil War.

A later confrontation with the Emperor led to centuries of captivity. After his release, Revan’s campaign against the Emperor eventually brought the Order of Revan under his command. His changing allegiances left legacies of intervention, conquest, redemption, and fanaticism that cannot be reduced to one teaching.

Within StarForgeRP-created history, House tradition associates Vanessa Vashara with Revan’s wartime Sith forces. That remembered service does not establish personal dealings with Revan himself.

The Sith Emperor — Tenebrae, Vitiate & Valkorion

Tenebrae, known as Vitiate and later encountered as Valkorion, shaped conflicts across many generations. His history connects the rebuilding of the Sith Empire, Revan and Malak’s fall, the Great Galactic War, and the consumption of life on Ziost. As Valkorion, he also ruled Zakuul’s Eternal Empire.

His attempts to survive bodily death prolonged the threat beyond the fall of individual identities, culminating in the confrontation remembered as Echoes of Oblivion. His legacy includes devastated communities and institutions shaped by his rule. Knowledge of one public identity did not automatically disclose the others: Imperial subjects, Zakuulans, and direct witnesses possessed very different access to his history.

Ulic Qel-Droma

Ulic Qel-Droma attempted to destroy the Krath, a dark-side cult, through infiltration. Instead, he embraced its teachings and became Exar Kun’s ally in the war against the Republic and Jedi.

Begin with a consequence a character can encounter: an inherited account, a military tradition, a disputed object, a damaged place, or someone who remembers a leader personally. Establish how the character learned about that connection and what the available evidence actually reveals.

Famous reputations can conceal different experiences. A celebrated commander may be remembered elsewhere for an occupation; a revered teacher may have left records that complicate later interpretations. Continuity & Canon explains the distinction between shared history, uncertain accounts, and character knowledge.

• Compare a commemorative account with testimony from people who experienced the same leader’s decisions differently.

• Investigate whether an artifact’s claimed association with a famous figure is supported by its history and provenance.

• Explore a disagreement over whether an inherited teaching still serves the community preserving it.

• Let a veteran and a later student compare firsthand experience with the version taught by an institution.

• Consider what a character should disclose when restricted evidence challenges a public reputation, leaving the consequences and other characters’ responses open.
