Title
Yavin 4
Small Text / Caption
Ancient Sith temples, Massassi territories, and deep jungle shaped by more than a millennium of dark-side history.
Standard Text
Yavin 4 is the most habitable of the many moons orbiting the Outer Rim gas giant Yavin. Dense tropical wilderness covers much of its surface, broken by swamps, caves, waterways, ancient temple complexes, and the remains of expeditions and military activity from very different periods of galactic history.
Its importance is historical rather than civic. Yavin 4 is not defined by great cities or a large modern population. Ancient Sith Lords transformed the moon into a refuge, laboratory, ritual center, and stronghold; generations of Massassi lived, fought, and built among its temples; Jedi and Sith repeatedly returned in search of knowledge or power; and the moon eventually became a principal battleground of the Revanite crisis.
For roleplay, Yavin 4 is best approached as an expeditionary world. Reaching a landing site is only the beginning. Jungle, wildlife, ancient architecture, territorial inhabitants, forgotten installations, and the Force itself can make exploration consequential long before a character discovers the thing they came looking for.
Image / Photo — Optional
Suggested Placement:
Immediately below the introduction and before Quick Reference.
Suggested Subject / Description:
A wide SWTOR-era environmental view of Yavin 4 showing a monumental ancient Massassi or Sith temple emerging above dense tropical jungle. Weathered stone, vegetation reclaiming the ruins, humid atmospheric haze, and the surrounding wilderness should make the temple feel like part of a much larger archaeological landscape rather than an isolated monument. The gas giant Yavin may appear in the sky if it fits naturally and remains secondary to the moon itself.
Suggested Format:
4:3 landscape website image.
Visual Continuity:
Use the same realistic cinematic presentation as other major StarForgeRP location artwork. The temple and surrounding jungle should remain recognizable when displayed at approximately 440 × 330 px. Keep major architectural features away from the outer edges so the composition tolerates modest Google Sites cropping.
Era / Lore Requirements:
The architecture should evoke ancient Sith and Massassi monumental construction appropriate to the Old Republic. Do not introduce Rebel Alliance facilities, Rebel insignia, X-wings, Galactic Civil War-era equipment, or other visual elements associated primarily with Yavin 4's much later history. Do not add lightsabers merely as Star Wars decoration. The ruins may be overgrown and weathered, but they should remain massive enough to communicate the long history of Sith construction on the moon.
Reference Material:
No source image is required. Generate an original interpretation from the established SWTOR-era environment and architecture.

Image Generation PromptImage Subject
Yavin 4 during the Star Wars: The Old Republic era: a vast tropical jungle moon dominated by dense rainforest, humid mist, tangled vegetation, swampy lowlands, and monumental remnants of ancient Sith and Massassi construction.
The primary subject is a massive weathered Massassi or ancient Sith temple rising above the jungle canopy. Its architecture should feel extremely old, severe, monumental, and constructed for ritual and dark-side use rather than resembling a modern military base. Stone surfaces are aged, broken in places, stained by centuries of weather, and partially reclaimed by vines, roots, moss, and surrounding vegetation without becoming completely hidden.
The environment should communicate difficult expeditionary terrain: thick jungle, uneven ground, distant cliffs or waterways where compositionally useful, and enough atmospheric depth to suggest that many more ruins may exist beyond the visible site.
The gas giant Yavin may be visible high in the sky if it can be incorporated naturally without overwhelming the composition. Its presence should establish that the location is a moon rather than become the primary spectacle.
No specific Republic, Imperial, Jedi, Sith, or Revanite expedition needs to be present. If tiny distant figures or an unobtrusive expedition light are useful for scale, keep their identity visually neutral and secondary.
Do not depict Rebel Alliance bases, Rebel insignia, X-wings, later Galactic Civil War-era equipment, or architecture strongly associated with Yavin 4's later history.
Do not add readable inscriptions, signs, faction logos, modern banners, or interface elements.
Do not add a lightsaber unless it is barely incidental to a specifically necessary character; the preferred composition contains no lightsabers.
Established requirements: dense Yavin 4 jungle, ancient monumental Sith/Massassi architecture, Old Republic-era visual language, archaeological age, and a remote dangerous atmosphere.
Artistic latitude: exact weather, cloud cover, vegetation arrangement, temple silhouette, distant terrain, and placement of the gas giant may vary so long as the established identity of the location remains clear.
Core Prompt
Create an original 4:3 visual for the StarForgeRP website based on the Image Subject described above.
Use a realistic, cinematic concept-art presentation appropriate to Star Wars: The Old Republic and the broader Old Republic era. The image should feel grounded, detailed, atmospheric, and believable, with restrained visual storytelling rather than exaggerated spectacle.
Maintain visual compatibility with the broader StarForgeRP artwork collection without forcing every subject into identical colors or lighting. Dark blue, navy, charcoal, muted metallic tones, cool environmental light, and selective warm gold or amber illumination may provide a recurring visual foundation where appropriate. Allow the natural colors of a character, world, culture, environment, object, or scene to remain recognizable when they are important to the subject.
Compose the scene according to what it needs to communicate. Characters, locations, landscapes, historical scenes, artifacts, architecture, starships, organizations, cultural subjects, technology, and archival compositions do not require identical framing. Give the primary subject a clear visual focus while allowing the surrounding environment to provide useful context, scale, and atmosphere.
Prioritize SWTOR-era and Old Republic-era visual language. Clothing, armor, architecture, starships, weapons, equipment, terminals, droids, vehicles, furnishings, and other technology should feel appropriate to that period when they appear. Avoid designs strongly associated with later Star Wars eras unless the individual Image Subject specifically requires them.
When the subject is tied to a particular faction, organization, culture, location, historical period, or StarForgeRP development, follow the supplied lore and continuity information rather than replacing it with generic Star Wars imagery.
Do not invent lore-significant uniforms, insignia, technology, architecture, symbols, relationships, events, or outcomes merely to make the image more elaborate.
When an uncertain detail is not necessary to the composition, it may remain visually unspecified.
Where appropriate, use environmental depth, atmospheric haze, practical or holographic illumination, weather, planetary terrain, architecture, machinery, interiors, crowds, distant activity, or culturally appropriate surroundings.
Background detail should support the primary subject and help establish the setting without overwhelming the composition.
For original StarForgeRP characters and other community-created subjects, follow supplied descriptions and reference material when available.
Preserve specifically requested identifying features, proportions, clothing, equipment, markings, colors, or other established design elements while creating a new composition rather than closely reproducing unrelated artwork.
If no reference image is supplied, create an original interpretation from the written description. Do not request a reference merely because one could improve precision.
Weapons should appear only when relevant to the subject.
Lightsabers should not be added merely as general Star Wars decoration; include them only when they meaningfully belong to the character, event, location, activity, or subject being depicted.
Do not include titles, captions, logos, borders, watermarks, webpage elements, decorative written language, readable interface labels, or other visible text unless the individual Image Subject specifically calls for them.
Compose the artwork for a 4:3 frame.
Keep important faces, characters, objects, landmarks, vehicles, and other essential visual information comfortably within the composition, with enough surrounding space to prevent important details from being lost near the edges.
The primary subject should remain recognizable and readable when the image is displayed on StarForgeRP at approximately 440 × 330 px.
Visual Standard

Atmosphere: grounded, immersive, detailed, and visually restrained
Composition: clear primary subject, readable at website display size, with essential details safely inside the frame
Background: lore-appropriate and supportive without competing with the primary subject
Continuity & Era: favor supplied StarForgeRP continuity and SWTOR-era visual language; avoid unsupported or later-era substitutions
Reference Material: preserve requested subject identity and established design details when references are available; generate from the written description when no reference is supplied and none is required
Technology: appropriate to the Old Republic or SWTOR era when applicable
Weapons: only when relevant to the subject
Lightsabers: only when specifically appropriate to the subject
Originality: create a new composition rather than directly reproducing or closely copying an existing artwork

Environment & Travel
Standard Text
More than two dozen moons orbit Yavin, but SWTOR identifies Yavin 4 as the most habitable. Its surface supports extensive plant and animal life beneath seemingly endless jungle, while rainforests and swamps make travel dangerous even before the moon's inhabitants or ruins become involved.
Characters operating away from prepared landing zones should expect the wilderness to matter. Heavy vegetation can limit visibility and communications; wetlands, waterways, caves, ravines, and broken ground can complicate movement; and ancient structures may be separated by considerable stretches of terrain that have never been made convenient for travelers.
Yavin 4 also supports dangerous native wildlife. Predators such as the krakjya reinforce the fact that a failed expedition does not need a Sith artifact or supernatural threat to become dangerous.
The regions represented in SWTOR establish examples of the moon's terrain rather than requiring every StarForgeRP expedition to take place inside the boundaries of the playable map. Unnamed jungle, minor ruins, caves, forgotten landing sites, and isolated archaeological locations can fit naturally when they remain consistent with Yavin 4's established environment and history.

Ancient Sith Legacy
Subheading
Naga Sadow & the Massassi
Standard Text
Yavin 4's association with the Sith reaches back to the aftermath of the Great Hyperspace War. Defeated and driven into exile, the ancient Dark Lord Naga Sadow withdrew to Yavin 4 with Massassi followers and made the moon one of the enduring centers of his legacy.
Sadow was both a Sith Lord and an accomplished alchemist. SWTOR's surviving histories describe him altering Massassi followers through Sith alchemy and using their labor to raise immense temples. Those events helped establish the combination of monumental architecture, ritual violence, altered inhabitants, and dark-side influence that later visitors would repeatedly encounter.
The history was not completely uniform. SWTOR records establish that the first Massassi brought to Yavin 4 were intelligent beings and that some initially escaped Sadow's transformations, forming an independent community. The surviving Massassi encountered much later therefore represent the outcome of a long and violent history rather than the original condition of every Massassi who ever lived on the moon.

Freedon Nadd & Exar Kun
Standard Text
Centuries later, the fallen Jedi Freedon Nadd came to Yavin 4 seeking deeper knowledge of the dark side. Nadd awakened Naga Sadow, learned from him, and eventually destroyed his master before carrying Sith teachings elsewhere.
Nadd's spirit later helped direct Exar Kun toward the same moon. Kun's arrival became another decisive point in Yavin 4's history. He destroyed Nadd's spirit, subjugated the Massassi, expanded the existing temple complexes, and pursued Sith alchemy and methods of using architecture and technology to intensify or manipulate dark-side power.
During the war that followed, Yavin 4 became one of Kun's principal strongholds. His eventual defeat did not erase what had been created there. Temples, artifacts, altered creatures, accumulated dark-side traditions, and memories of the conflict survived long after Kun himself ceased to rule the moon.
The broader chronology of the Great Hyperspace War, Exar Kun's conflict, and later SWTOR events is maintained in the Galactic Timeline Galactic Timeline.

Later Expeditions
Standard Text
The moon continued to attract Jedi and Sith attention long after the ancient Sith Lords who shaped it were gone.
One SWTOR-era Jedi journal records an earlier attempt by members of the Jedi Order to purge Yavin 4's dark-side influence through an extraordinarily destructive application of light-side power. According to that account, much of the moon's life was destroyed and later restored, while the Massassi and the underlying dark-side presence endured.
Another episode preserved in SWTOR's Galactic History concerns Jedi Master Barel Ovair and his Padawan Eison Gynt. The pair traveled to Yavin 4 ostensibly to investigate Naga Sadow's resting place. The expedition encountered surviving Massassi and lingering dark power, while later revelations connected Ovair himself to the hidden Sith Empire and the Emperor's efforts to eliminate threats posed by ancient Sith spirits.
Yavin 4 consequently does not belong to a single historical moment. A ruin may carry evidence of Sadow's exile, Massassi construction, Exar Kun's occupation, later Jedi activity, Imperial intervention, or Revanite use—and sometimes several layers at once.
Heading
The Massassi
Standard Text
The Massassi are inseparable from Yavin 4's history, but they should not be reduced to scenery surrounding the temples they built.
SWTOR identifies the Massassi as genetic relatives of the Sith Purebloods and establishes Force sensitivity among them. By the time of the Revanite crisis, many of Yavin 4's surviving Massassi had been profoundly altered by generations of dark-side influence and the legacy of Sith alchemy. They were physically powerful, heavily clawed, and portrayed as relying far more on instinct than their intelligent ancestors.
Earlier SWTOR records nevertheless describe intelligent Massassi communities capable of independence, planning, strategy, and organized resistance to Naga Sadow. Those earlier conditions are important when interpreting ancient remains: the moon's history was created by communities with their own decisions and internal conflicts, not by one unchanging population.
For StarForgeRP stories, Massassi territory should therefore have weight. An expedition entering a ruin is not necessarily entering an empty archaeological site simply because outsiders consider it abandoned. Ancient structures may also be places of memory, danger, ritual, habitation, or territorial importance to those who have lived around them for generations.

The Force on Yavin 4
Standard Text
SWTOR describes the dark side as having flowed through Yavin 4 with increasing strength for well over a thousand years. Naga Sadow, Exar Kun, accumulated ritual activity, ancient deaths, Sith experimentation, and later events all contribute to the moon's reputation as a place where the Force cannot easily be treated as background.
That does not require every Force-sensitive visitor to experience Yavin 4 identically. One character might encounter oppressive sensations, heightened temptation, visions, disturbing dreams, unusual clarity, fascination, fear, or nothing dramatic at all. Training, tradition, personal history, location, and the specific phenomenon being encountered can all matter.
For collaborative roleplay, the moon's supernatural atmosphere is most useful as a source of uncertainty and pressure rather than automatic control over another player's character. Corruption, possession, compulsory visions, altered memories, or other major effects should arise from the story and participant agreement rather than from the assumption that setting foot on Yavin 4 determines a character's response.

Shadow of Revan
Standard Text
Yavin 4 returned to galactic importance during the crisis surrounding Revan and the later Order of Revan Order of Revan.
By this period, the Revanites had developed far beyond the earlier secretive movement associated with Dromund Kaas. Their conspiracy reached into both Republic and Imperial institutions and eventually moved from Rishi to Yavin 4, where Revan pursued a plan centered on the Sith Emperor.
The danger created an extraordinary temporary alliance. Jedi Grand Master Satele Shan and Darth Marr agreed to coordinate Republic and Imperial forces against the Revanites despite the wider conflict between their governments. This coalition was a response to a common emergency, not the creation of a permanent joint government on Yavin 4.
The campaign culminated in the confrontation with Revan and the failure to prevent the Sith Emperor's renewed activity. Events following Yavin 4 continued elsewhere, including the Emperor's assault on Ziost. The Revanite campaign is therefore an important historical layer of the moon without defining every later visit to it.

Notable Sites

Temple of Sacrifice
Standard Text
The Temple of Sacrifice is one of Yavin 4's most important SWTOR-era ruins. During the Revanite crisis it became a principal Revanite stronghold and a focal point of the coalition's campaign against Revan's forces.
Its importance makes it poor blank-slate territory for a newly invented history that ignores established events. Stories involving the temple work best when they acknowledge its ancient purpose, its Revanite occupation, and the dangerous historical attention already associated with the site.

Imperial Guard Academy
Standard Text
The Sith Empire maintained an Imperial Guard training academy on Yavin 4. SWTOR describes the Emperor as favoring worlds strong in the dark side for such facilities, where candidates for the Guard underwent exceptionally lethal training intended to transform them into servants bound closely to his will.
The academy establishes that Yavin 4's importance was not limited to ancient ruins. The hidden Empire also found practical uses for the moon before the Revanite crisis.
Its existence does not require the facility to remain an active academy indefinitely. Later stories can instead treat surviving structures, training grounds, records, defenses, or abandoned infrastructure according to what the specific scenario establishes.

Lesser-Known Temples & Ruins
Standard Text
The best-known SWTOR locations should not be mistaken for the entirety of Yavin 4's archaeological landscape. The moon contains numerous temples, ruins, caves, and less prominent structures, and SWTOR itself later used an undiscovered temple as the setting for a player stronghold.
That makes smaller forgotten complexes especially useful for StarForgeRP. A community-created base, archaeological site, sealed chamber, lost archive, or isolated temple can fit the setting without claiming control of a major named location already central to SWTOR's story.
A convincing hidden site benefits from a history: who built or used it, how it remained overlooked, what survives there, how characters gain access, and what relationship it has with the surrounding wilderness and Massassi.

Yavin 4 in StarForgeRP
Standard Text
The Revanite crisis is established history in StarForgeRP's present-day continuity. Yavin 4 should not be treated as though the temporary coalition camps, troop deployments, and emergency arrangements of that campaign remain frozen in place forever.
The moon remains most useful as a remote world of wilderness, ruins, historical danger, and incomplete knowledge. Republic, Imperial, Jedi, Sith, academic, criminal, independent, or privately funded expeditions can all have reasons to visit without requiring Yavin 4 itself to become a conventional frontline world or permanent factional capital.

Using Yavin 4 in Roleplay
Standard Text
A strong Yavin 4 story usually begins with a reason to accept the difficulty of going there. The moon is particularly effective when the environment, history, and consequences matter alongside the objective rather than serving only as exotic scenery.
List
Archaeological Expedition — A newly located ruin may belong to Sadow's era, Exar Kun's occupation, a later Jedi expedition, the hidden Sith Empire, or the Revanites. Determining which layer matters can be part of the story.Missing Team — Researchers, scouts, salvagers, or intelligence personnel fail to return, leaving uncertain whether wildlife, terrain, Massassi, ancient defenses, rival explorers, or the Force is responsible.Relic Dispute — Several groups may agree that an artifact is dangerous while disagreeing completely about whether it should be preserved, studied, surrendered, contained, exploited, or destroyed.Former Revanite Site — Abandoned equipment, encrypted records, concealed supply caches, compromised identities, or unfinished plans can create consequences without restoring the historical Order of Revan as a major active power.Massassi Territory — Exploration can become a problem of intrusion, survival, interpretation, or competing claims rather than a simple combat encounter.Hidden Stronghold — An isolated temple or forgotten facility can support a recurring StarForgeRP location when its discovery, occupants, access, history, and relationship to surrounding ruins are established.Force Investigation — A disturbance may be connected to an ancient spirit, ritual site, damaged artifact, lingering phenomenon, or something characters initially misidentify. Uncertainty is often more useful than immediate confirmation.
Standard Text
Whatever brings characters to Yavin 4, the strongest consequences need not change the fate of the galaxy. A recovered object can create a future dispute. A damaged ruin can alter later research. A compromised expedition can expose a relationship or secret. A newly mapped site can become a recurring location. Someone who returns from the moon may carry knowledge, obligations, fears, injuries, rivals, or unanswered questions into later stories.
