The Imperial Military is the conventional armed force of the Sith Empire. Its Army and Navy conquer and defend territory, fight planetary and interstellar campaigns, and maintain the installations, transportation, and supplies needed to sustain deployed forces. Soldiers and ship crews serve alongside medical personnel, engineers, communications specialists, administrators, and other professionals whose work keeps the Empire operational.
Military service offers responsibility, advancement, and lasting professional relationships within a state governed by Sith. Expertise can make an officer indispensable without protecting them from political interference. For an individual servicemember, loyalty may center on comrades, family, professional duty, Imperial ideals, or the commander who brought them home. Those commitments can reinforce one another—or become difficult to reconcile.
Organization type — Conventional armed forces.
Allegiance — Sith Empire.
Status — Active.
Principal branches — Imperial Army and Imperial Navy.
Headquarters — Imperial Citadel, Kaas City, Dromund Kaas.
Political oversight — Sith rule; Military Command within the reformed Dark Council.
Principal responsibilities — Warfare, defense, occupation, transportation, military infrastructure, and operational support.
Principal military opponent — Republic Military.
The Imperial Army conducts ground warfare and maintains deployed forces, garrisons, and defensive positions. Infantry and vehicle crews depend on personnel who provide communications, engineering, medical care, supply, and transportation.
The Imperial Navy operates the fleets that fight between systems and carry Imperial power into planetary theaters. Shipboard service includes navigation, weapons, flight operations, engineering, maintenance, and the work required to sustain crews during deployment.
Specialist institutions and formations support both combat and continuing operations. The Imperial Medical Corps provides an established medical-service context, while Special Forces units undertake demanding assignments requiring particular training and equipment. Major Anri’s Raven Squad is one later-era example. Specialist status describes a role; it does not establish an independent chain of authority over unrelated personnel.
The following ascending lists provide a working SWTOR-era rank reference. They are not an exhaustive regulation or a prescribed career path.
Imperial Army — Private, Specialist, Corporal, Sergeant, Ensign, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Colonel, General.
Imperial Navy — Private, Specialist, Corporal, Petty Officer, Ensign, Lieutenant, Commander, Captain, Group Captain, Commodore, Admiral.
Moffs hold senior responsibilities above ordinary Army and Navy commands. Grand Moff is a distinguished senior title associated with figures such as Odile Vaiken. The office and forces assigned to a particular holder determine what that position means in practice.
For any character, establish rank alongside appointment: a formation, shipboard department, installation, specialist team, or defined operation. Being addressed as “commander” may describe command responsibility; the word alone does not establish someone’s formal grade.
Compulsory service has deep roots in Imperial military history. During the Empire’s reconstruction on Dromund Kaas, Odile Vaiken drafted adults without Force abilities and developed a training system whose influence endured for centuries. That origin does not establish identical recruitment arrangements for every later population or period.
Training and previous assignments should explain a character’s competence. Enlisted service, academy education, specialist preparation, and battlefield promotion create different foundations for responsibility.
Imperial rhetoric about merit also coexists with unequal opportunity. Colonel Korrd’s wealthy naval family helped secure prestigious education and elite training. His subsequent commitment to supply work developed through wartime loss and experience. Family standing, ability, patronage, and professional judgment can each affect a career without making them interchangeable.
The Empire’s traditional hierarchy privileged Humans, Sith Purebloods, and established elites. Nevertheless, alien military service existed before later reforms: early accounts identify rare Chiss who held official Imperial rank.
Reforms associated with Darth Malgus and Darth Marr widened opportunities for non-Human personnel. Major Anri, a Twi’lek former slave who rose to command Raven Squad, demonstrates that later Imperial service could include decorated alien officers.
These changes broaden the backgrounds available to military characters. They do not establish that prejudice disappeared, that every posting offered equal opportunity, or that individual soldiers responded to reform in the same way.
Imperial operations range from major offensives to the continuing work of holding territory. A campaign may require coordinated fleet movements, ground assaults, defensive positions, patrols, and protection of the routes connecting deployed units to their supplies.
Occupation creates additional demands and consequences. During the earlier occupation of Balmorra, resistance attacks and competing Imperial priorities left the occupying military short of personnel and supplies. Success in an invasion did not produce a secure or easily governed world.
Military stories can therefore concern a position held too long, a route that cannot be kept open, or a commander whose objectives exceed the resources available. Civilians experience those decisions through security measures, requisitions, interrupted livelihoods, and exposure to violence.
Operational strength depends on usable equipment, functioning communications, transport capacity, and personnel able to continue their work. Supply and maintenance can determine whether a force reaches its objective at all.
Medical support introduces its own dependencies. A casualty may need treatment, a secure route, and available transportation, with different personnel responsible for each. Likewise, an engineer can identify a dangerous failure without controlling the resources needed to repair it.
Starships & Vehicles provides broader transportation context. Weapons & Defense covers the equipment and protective technologies that military assignments may require.
The Imperial Outreach Division combines morale work with indoctrination and efforts to prevent defection. Its attention falls chiefly on lower-ranking ground personnel, using organized speeches, historical visits, and approved recreation to shape soldiers’ experience of service.
Ordinary military life also creates relationships through shared watches, training, maintenance, quarters, leave, recovery, and separation from home. A character may value those relationships while distrusting official explanations of a defeat or resenting the institution’s intrusion into personal life.
The Sith Order holds political supremacy within the Empire. Military expertise and formal procedure operate beneath that power; an officer cannot assume that a sound professional judgment will protect them from Sith demands or retaliation.
Sith standing, military rank, and a specific appointment nevertheless describe different things. Political influence may compel cooperation without making its holder the permanent commander of every affected formation.
Under the reformed Dark Council, Military Command combines responsibility for defense, military offense, and military strategy. Production and Logistics belongs to Civil Administration, while Sith Intelligence falls under Galactic Influence. Operations therefore depend on institutions beyond a field commander’s immediate control.
A character’s duties establish a useful starting point for their resources: the equipment they maintain, personnel they supervise, transport allocated to their work, and records they need to consult. Rank alone does not explain access to an unrelated investigation or another institution’s holdings.
StarForgeRP’s Korriban command environment makes these distinctions consequential. Army commanders coordinate security and movement; medical personnel make clinical assessments; record specialists authenticate evidence; authorized reviewers examine responsibility. Cooperation brings their findings together without making any one contribution a complete verdict.
Political pressure can challenge those boundaries. How characters respond may affect their careers, relationships, and the reliability of the decisions made around them.
The military supplies the forces through which Imperial policy becomes action. Its commanders must work within priorities shaped by the throne, Sith authorities, and the institutions responsible for production, administration, and strategic direction.
The modern Hand of the Empire operates outside Dark Council authority with backing from the Imperial throne. Reformed after the Meridian Complex assault, it provides another channel for exceptional assignments directed toward victory over the Republic. Its remit differs from the former Emperor’s Hand and should be understood through the particular operation involved.
Imperial Intelligence was a separate institution whose investigations and political influence could affect military careers. Its dissolution resulted in some personnel being reassigned into military service; that transition did not make the former organization a standing Army or Navy branch.
Sith Intelligence subsequently assumed the Empire’s broader intelligence role. Cooperation may involve threat assessments, transportation, protection, or joint assignments. Military participation in an operation does not automatically reveal its concealed sources or unrelated intelligence work.
The Chiss Ascendancy maintains its own military institutions. Its Chiss Expansionary Defense Force assists Imperial operations while retaining a distinct identity and responsibilities.
An allied Chiss servicemember and a Chiss individual holding Imperial military rank therefore have different institutional relationships. Establish which applies before assuming a shared chain of command.
The Republic’s armed forces are the Empire’s principal conventional opponent. Their conflict gives military characters histories involving enemy formations, contested objectives, lost colleagues, and communities affected by successive campaigns.
An opponent’s allegiance does not reveal their complete circumstances. Encounters can turn on incomplete intelligence, conflicting orders, a local ceasefire, or the treatment of prisoners and wounded personnel.
Imperial Citadel — The military’s headquarters in Kaas City, placing senior institutional work near the center of Imperial government.
Vaiken Spacedock — A major fleet and logistical hub supporting military staging, servicing, supply, and coordination.
Mos Ila — An Imperial-garrisoned settlement and spaceport on Tatooine, where military activity intersects with civilian trade, transportation, and the history of abandoned research.
Korriban Garrison — StarForgeRP’s distributed Army installation network supporting security, transport, medical care, communications, and other services around separately controlled Sith institutions.
The modern military developed after the Empire’s survivors settled on Dromund Kaas following the Great Hyperspace War. Odile Vaiken organized personnel and training, helped establish Imperial control of the surrounding wilderness, and began the immense industrial effort required to construct an armada.
The fleet-building program extended beyond his lifetime. His legacy tied conventional military service to the Empire’s survival and eventual return to galactic warfare. Historical Figures provides further context for Vaiken’s place in Imperial history.
Imperial forces fought the Great Galactic War, which ended with the Sacking of Coruscant and the Treaty of Coruscant. The ensuing Cold War preserved hostility and military competition before open warfare resumed.
These periods produced different experiences of service: invasion and occupation, defensive preparation, rebuilding, and renewed campaigning. Earlier deployments could leave obligations and grievances that survived changes in command.
Internal conflict, the loss of Ziost, and Zakuul’s conquest disrupted Imperial institutions and personnel. Survival required rebuilding, while later political reforms altered the distribution of responsibility within the Dark Council.
The Empire eventually returned to sustained war with the Republic. The Galactic Timeline supplies the wider sequence without making every veteran’s career follow the same battles or transitions.
The Imperial Military remains active in the continuing Republic–Imperial war. Current Setting establishes StarForgeRP’s shared present and the wider circumstances affecting contemporary assignments.
Service can take place at an active front, a recovering installation, a fleet support center, or a garrison far from major fighting. Previous losses and institutional changes remain relevant through experience, transfers, professional relationships, and unfinished responsibilities. They do not establish identical conditions across every Imperial command.
Veyra Dren provides a senior Army connection through her provisional Korriban command and responsibility for readiness, support, and accountable delegation. Her mentorship of Sara Kenau, commander of the 1st Perimeter Battalion, also connects institutional command to a continuing professional relationship.
Tarika Kenau commands the 2nd Containment Battalion, while Maxir Korden leads Delta Response & Enforcement Company. Their duties bring movement control, containment, and operational response into contact with neighboring commands and support services. Their dossiers preserve the particular limits and scrutiny affecting their appointments.
Gavin Rin connects the Imperial Medical Corps to casualty treatment and mortality reconstruction on Korriban. His medical findings must be considered alongside the transport, security, and command circumstances surrounding an emergency.
PX-21 supports Sara’s battalion through verification and evidence preservation. Its ability to authenticate a record does not establish that every statement within that record is true or resolve responsibility by itself.
Zylia Vashara conducts Military Command compliance work under defined mandates. Her involvement connects Sith oversight with conventional military responsibility without giving her a permanent Army formation or unrestricted investigative authority.
Ash Corridor follows the examination of a failed Army operation and its consequences. The investigation brings command decisions, medical findings, communications, movement, and surviving records into comparison while leaving disputed responsibility unresolved.
The campaign page maintains the incident chronology, evidence boundaries, and participation guidance. Coordinate an entry point with the relevant participants before joining the story; access to its published overview does not give a character its protected findings.
Begin with a duty that places the character among people who need something from them. An assignment gives military affiliation practical meaning: someone issues orders, someone relies on the work, and someone lives with its consequences.
How did the character enter service, and what training prepared them for their present duties?
What do they actually command, maintain, operate, protect, or provide?
Who supervises them, and whose cooperation do they need?
Which earlier posting or professional relationship still affects their choices?
What equipment and information can they access through their assignment?
How do loyalty to comrades, personal convictions, ambition, and Sith pressure interact?
What unresolved duty, disputed decision, or damaged relationship could bring another character into the story?
A replacement officer arriving during an inspection, an evacuation waiting on a repaired transport, or a supply discrepancy affecting two commands can support a story involving several professions. Establish the circumstances together and let participants determine their characters’ responses.
The Character Directory offers further established people and connections for developing those relationships.
